Question 2012 XLT

Has anyone run into this one before? My wife went to pay taxes on our 2012 XLT and was told by the DMV that we had a King Ranch. No where on the truck does it say King Ranch. It does not have King Ranch seats. I pulled the window sticker from Ford and it just says XLT. It has equipment group 201a and Daytime running lamps no other options. It is black and gold with Camel Leather seats. However. other Vin Decoders do pull it up as a King Ranch. We used the window sticker to straighten out the DMV but I was wondering what is going on.

I believe the only way the DMV got King Ranch was at your selling dealer when they sent the original title paperwork in. A call to them might be in order

The dealer had it listed as xlt and i paid xlt pricing. Other vin decoders pull it uo as king ranch. The dmv said there was an h in the vin that indicates king ranch

Carfax also shows it as a King Ranch

what does it matter to them king ranch or not? They only need the sales price of the vehicle on the bill of sale. Not sure what state you are in either but the majority of states do not allow you to pay the taxes. Dealers are responsible for collecting, reporting and completing the registration process, it's part of being a dealer.

In a property tax state the yearly taxes are based on the trim level, that's why it matters. As the OP said his wife went to pay the taxes - property tax, not sales tax.

I had something similar show up with my 11 XLT 203A. I can't remember if it showed up as a KR or a Limited, but there was something goofy like that in the paperwork somewhere. We're not a property tax state so it never made any difference to us.

we are in a property tax state. having a copy of the window sticker cleared things up. Thanks for all of the input. One question though. are there any mechanical differences between the KR and XLT or is it all cosmetic?

drivetrain is the same but KR adds some things, front park aid, trailer tow, brake control etc as standard equipment.

For the OP, just curious, is your XLT like mine and a 203A package? It puts most all of the Limited stuff on it, the major exclusion being the rear heated seats. My kids were so sad.
