Need a 6.0 Mechanic near Chicago
Hi All
I've got 2 6.0 F-350s... a short bed 2004 and long bed 2007, both dually crew cab 4x4. They are both in great condition as far as the bodies go, but the EGR cooler has been a problem on the 07 and the EGR valve on the 04 is constantly clogging...
Both trucks are under 100K miles, the 04 just over 90k and the 07 about 75k
These trucks should have a lot of life left in them
I'm not sure what the rules are about suggesting mechanics or vendors on the forum
I have what seems to be a high pressure oil leak, probably in the STC on my 07 (see my post https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tart-cold.html )
I'd like to find a local (within 100 miles is okay) mechanic that knows the 6.0 and is willing to do this job, and is interested in suggesting some other upgrades 'while we are at it'.
I'm looking for a reliable tow vehicle, not a hot rod. I'm willing to spend some money to keep this truck on the road and don't mind replacing parts with better versions, but i simply don't have the time, experience and background to get to this myself... I wrenched on mustangs decades ago and read Diesel Power mag, and have done some work on the trucks... but i'm no expert
I don't mind going to a FORD shop either, i just want to be sure i have a good guy doing my work... I've had spotty work done by a couple of different local dealerships, and i know they will only use FORD parts
Probably will need shocks, and some other suspension work, brakes, tires... all the stuff that wears out around this time...
The goal is to create a long term relationship and steer all my fleet service to a single company...
Thanks!

Check out Heavy Metal Performance (HMP Diesel). They are located in Rockdale IL (Joilet IL) They have a Cummins, Powerstroke and Duramax guy so all bases are covered! They are really the only shop that has been around that I know of. I am not a fan of the tuners he uses but my truck is all stock anyways!

Thanks for the Heads Up guys!
Ron at HMP just finished my 07 last week, and the 04 is there now... HPOP, Oil Cooler, EGR cooler, Inter-cooler (since i had a blown turbo boot anyway i thought it was a good time to upgrade) dummy plugs a few of the other upgrades that might be needed later but are accessible now
It's great to know that he does this all the time and owns a 6.0
I towed a trailer to New York the day after his repairs with the 07; perfect!
Both of my trucks should see another 100K easily

Also, so you know, I did call Jim at Jim's Powerstroke. Liked his approach and seemed like a great guy. What won me over was other recommendations from people i work with and from shops about HMP. Jim seemed quite knowledgeable, and accommodating, and i would have liked to have stopped by his shop to meet him personally, but just was too darn busy. When my second truck started to bog, blow smoke and eat coolant, i needed to work fast

Ron is a very good mechanic and straight-forward guy! He will tell you what needs immediate fixing and what can wait. He always took great care of my truck and I always recommend his show to any Chicago area Powerstroke owner!!
I sold my truck two months ago, I miss it so much
