striker bolt removal / door panel rattle
Hey All -
First time poster here. Got a '93 EB 302 115k owned since new, having to do some things to. Couple questions:
Striker bolts - looks like they just twist out with torx T50, but my question is, is the inside connector welded into the backside of the door jam, or loose? (when bolt finally comes out, nut falls down and out of site, or stays in place?) Same question/answer for tailgate strikers.(?)
Door panels - I took both off the same day without aid of manual, and ended up breaking off the little tab in the center that holds it snug. Now both rattle like crazy, and is driving me insane. Anyone else make this mistake, and how have you dealt w/it? Can't find replacement panels for '93 EB at any price, not that I would pay $400 anyway.

The door and tailgate strikers can be removed, and the insert will stay in place. It is a little loose for adjustment, but won't fall down out of sight!
As for the door panels rattling, I have the same problem. Thought about a small dab of epoxy cement to hold them to the door. Just enough to hold the middle of the panel so it won't rattle.

My '88 had the same issue. I took some heat/sound insulation material and covered the mounting side of the panel in some stategic places. My idea was to have the insulation material stick out just a little futher than the surfaces that actually make contact around the nylon push in trim retainers and the door itself (I don't know the official name for those retainers). About an 1/8" to a 1/4" seemed to work well and didn't make the panel bulge out from trying to compress the insulation. The insulation added just enough resistance to keep the door panel from vibrating and causing the rattle. Also it has cut down on some of the road noise. It was a cheap fix and I'm putting this behind each large trim panel as I have reason to remove them while working on this vehicle.

Guess I have to correct my previous post on the door strikers!!! When I removed them from my 88 parts Bronco, the retainer/nut stayed in place. When I unbolted the pass.-side striker today on my 84 Bronco, the retainer fell down!!!
I had to loosen and pull back the rear inner panel, and retrieve the retainer from the bottom of the door! The good news is that there's a hole about striker-level just big enough to get a pair of pliers thru, and fasten the new striker while holding the retainer.
I got new strikers from an aftermarket supplier, for a 78-79 Bronco, with the plastic bushings. The ones listed for 80-86 have a metal clip over the bushing, but mine are the older style. GO figure???
