Rough and Ready

So after 15 plus years she's back on the road! I've only got to drive it for 5 minutes before all hell broke loose, but it was awesome.

Still hasn't had a decent bath, anyway the fuel pump died AND I had a short circuit to ground on the ammeter wires so I took this picture waiting for a tow. looking to get a new fuel pump but not sure if I should go with original or electric. Still has the original type generator and not sure if it could handle the extra load.

Carter P7040, very common and reliable. Run that with a cheap regulator and you are in business. Run it off a switch under the dash and it's an anti theft feature. Although you may want to install an inertia switch too in case of an accident if you are concerned about burning alive lol

Good to see another fridge 4x4 on the road.
Check your fuel tank for crud, incase your old pump died from crud ingestion.

That thing looks great. Glad to see your progress. Definately clean the tank out as teddy mentioned.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I'm happy to report that this is still a great County to live in as you can go to your local AutoZone and get a new original replacement fuel pump any day of the week for your ford y block. She's up and running again.
I really gave the battery a beating when the wires shorted, the ammeter was pegged at 30+ amp for awhile. Ill check the new in pump filter right away for junk but when I checked the old one before the test drive it looked good. Ill look at the old one again. I was thinking of buying a spare pump and stash it behing the seat along with a small tool kit. This truck has dual tanks with a somwhat hidden valve that could act as a theft deturant.

Speaking of theft , I'm already stressing a bit about that. Hope I can keep the wife content giving up her prime indoor parking spot.

Side question: was vinyl tape used back in 59 on the wiring harness?

Congrats on getting her rolling again. Yes, vinyl "wrap", was on the '59 harness.

So I got her registered today, got the licence plates cleaned up and illuminated, diagnosed that the low beam circuit breaker is refusing to pass a single electron.

Anyone know if the circuit breaker is self or manually reset? High Beams work fine.
