Real world use and mpg from a TC 2.0L.

WOW..... I first got interested in Transit Connects back in 2008, WHAT THE...........

I started a new job this past Tuesday and the round trip is around 50 miles. My poor 4.2L 167,000 mile ladened

F150 is starting to provide lower that desired MPGs. I use around 4 gallons on the round trip and at 4.30 a

gallon, I am considering a used TC (around $20,000 for a 2010 model).

Can the TC with a 2.0 handle around 500 pounds of tools?

Portable tablesaw, chopsaw, extension cords, drills, etc. - pretty much most of my carpentry tools and

equipment.

What kind of real world MPGs can I expect from a 2.0 TC? I spend around 400.00 a month of fuel, but

economically it would not make sense for a TC loan payment and a higher than desired fuel cost from the TC.

The other option is a new 4.2 in the F150.

Thoughts - good, bad, indifferent?

Who has a loaded daily driver Transit Connect? Help!

TC payload is a tick below 1700#. Mine scales at 5030# fully loaded. I have seen MPG of low to mid twenties in town.

My 2010 sees max lbs regularly, gets 25 mpg running highway speeds, has 167k miles and had no trouble at all out of it.

My 2010 TC has a ladder rack on it. I took the ladder off from it because it cost 1-2 mpg. Most of my driving is highway and freeway. Here in Michigan that means 60mph on the highway and 75mph on the freeway. Where I drive can be hilly, never flat for more than a few miles. With that said, the best I ever got for a tank was 23mpg. The worst was just under 20mpg. 75,000 miles on it when I left that job.

Our 2010 has about 16k miles on it, and i believe gets around 22 mpg. Probably be better if your foot wasnt to the floor the entire time, but thats the only way you can get anywhere in it. Barely makes it up some small small CT highway hills here at 70, nevermind with something in the back

We mostly just use it as a transportation for tools/materials to jobs and for errands. the F450s do the work

My company truck is a 2013 Connect and only has 6k on it. Every tank so far regardless of how it is driven or where it is driven (usually a mix of city and highway) it gets 24-25 MPG. Not much weight though just small tools and supplies.

Mine is now at 45,000 miles and has no problems other than the crappy tires it came with. I put on a set of top of the line Goodyears and its good for another 45k. I was worried about the truck holding up, so I bought an extended warranty. Also, I bought new for the same reason. Having owned one for a while, I would not hesitate to buy a used one from the cable company / alarm company/ etc. at an auction or lease turn ins.

2012 here with 56k miles. Loaded with racks and tools. Not a single issue so far. I've moved close to 2000# (20 bags of Portland cement) on a few occasions. My Mileage mixed city/hwy is 22-25. Got 50k from the original tires (Conti's) and didn't think they were that bad so replaced with same.
This van replaced an '06 F350 Diesel and the money saved on fuel, driving 35k miles a year, almost pays for itself.
