This looks like a specialized production vehicle for something. I bought it cause I think its unique and will be fun. Not only for me but my 17yr old son has all sorts of "plans".

But I need some help identifying what this was, is . Looks to me like a 1966 ford F-600, heavy axles, 4X4.

Looks "home built" to me.

-Mismatched axles.

-"transfer case" looks like a TC from a 3 axle truck. (looks like a second output shaft capped off)

-e-brake not hooked up

-welds have that "laying in the dirt with a stick welder" look.

-looks like an FE car or pickup (note rear sump) engine, not an FT like that truck should have as OEM.

Does it have a VIN and warranty plate? Post the info, and the original info can be found.

Any other plate or vehicle info placard etc?

How does it run? 4x4 work? Front drive shaft crash into anything when you hit a bump? PS work? Brakes--any wheel lockup?

 

It has a 390 in it. Runs good but fuel pump is out. I'm putting one in as soon as it stops raining. Then I will know how the brakes work. Thanks for the info. The colors are about the same a US Fish and Wildlife, so I thought it may be something used for their purposes back in the day. Maybe not, don't know. Thanks for the info, I'll keep psoting as I learn more about the truck.

 

F & W might be a good guess. Note the massive brackets on the rear of the frame....Maybe a tank truck like they use to stock fish in rivers & lakes? (massive wag there....)

 

That front axle ( its a Rockwell) looks just like what was under the M35 "Deuce & 1/2" military trucks.
I think the capped off case output was for a PTO. I not quite sure I'd call it home built.

 

Warranty Plate located either on the inside of the glove box door, or on left door face below latch.

Has the VIN, actual wheelbase in inches, codes for the: COLOR/MODEL/BODY/TRANS/AXLE stamped on it, along with the max GVW, net HP & RPM, DSO code.

Truck didn't come w/a 390 originally...if that's what it is...which I doubt.

390 is an FE engine, all FE's look exactly the same. 390's introduced in 1968 F100/350's, used thru 1976. So it could be a 352/360/390/410/428 or?

This truck came with an FT engine originally and all FT's look the same and look similar to FE engines!

This truck originally came with a remote mounted power brake booster (Hydro-Vac) and single pot master cylinder.

Looks like a F100/350 booster/dual master swapped in, actual year unknown, dual masters intro'd in 1967.

1971 was the first year Ford offered F600's with 4WD, previous years are all conversions.

What year is it? Last 6 digits of VIN will decode to such. This truck has a 1963 only grille, 1962/64 upper grille panel. 1965/66 upper grille panel has the parking lamps within it.

 

Good (but in hindsight easy) catch on the master. No master like that on an F600 in those days.

The TC/divider box looks similar (to me) to the ones in the GMC M211 trucks. Clearly not the same box, but several details are similar. The "capped off" stub is probably not capped off, but rather the end of another shaft in the box. Not a PTO, you can see a PTO in the M211 pic:

You have some info that would suggest Oshkosh as the builder of the chassis?
