94 F150 Running Rich
I have 1994 F150 XLT 5.8
Just bought it (you guys have to love these post).
Went out to start it today sat for about 24 hours since I bought it. Wouldn't start first 5 second crank. 15 seconds of cranking later it started up but man it was puffing more black smoke than I have ever seen.
Let it idle for about 15 minutes it died twice. I then drove it around the block parked it let it idle 5 more minutes. It stopped running rough and sputting idled normal.
I then pulled out of the driveway and floored the gas, it scared me there are 2 50 black marks in the road from the amount of rubber that hit the ground.
Tried to do it again (i'm 22 what can i say) and it just felt down on power and felt like I was towing a trailer. But it was not misfiring.
I also drove this truck for over a hour before I bought it, it never behaved like this.
The only difference between today and yesterday is it rained today.
Now I do have a 94 f150 xlt with the 5.0 so I was curious as to were I should start and if parts would swap from one truck to another? The engine through a rod out the side of the oil pan on my way home from work.
I have not pulled codes, I will do it on Monday.
I have no clue where I should start and what parts I can swap over if they may be the cause. :/
You guys have helped me out before, and I feel you can help me out again. I got myself into a pinch here....

Just a little update, went to pull codes...There were none stored or active let the truck run for 35 minutes was puffing smoke at start up and then it stopped and ran fine.
The injectors seem a little noisy so I was thinking about check those out. Otherwise I am thinking the fuel return line may be clogged and I am going to be looking into that Thursday.
Any other ideas where I should look for potential problems?

Check fuel pressure. That will let you know actual pressure. Also, pull a spark plug or two or all 8, and check condition. Pull cap and rotor. Clean carbon from contacts. And last, but not least....its a 94, take the time and inspect ECM (PCM). No codes after all those symptoms makes me wonder. I have my own saga of ECM problems now and it would only throw EVP code 327. It was 2 badly burned capacitors. The truck would either run well enough to drive 1 day and then poor enough for maybe a month or 2 poorly enough not to dare pull onto a city street.
May want to inspect O2 sensor and if it's more than 3 years old, its due as it degrades not only with boiling exhaust but with age. Its an Emissions part, federally mandated so no sales tax or at least not here in Missouri. Is exhaust new? If OEM from '94, Cat(s) could be partially melted and/or plugged.

And on the PCM, I am assuming if it is bad or burnt up I cannot use the one from my other truck seeing as one is 5.0 and one is a 5.8?

Alrighty gentleman, I got codes!
565 Canister purge circuit failure
173 HO2s System Indicates Rich
212 Loss of ignition diagnostic module input to pcm/spout circuit grounded
332 Insufficient EGR flow detected
I should also state that when I put my truck in reverse it blows the fuse for the gauges, so I think my problem may be electrical.
I'm not sure where to start with these. Oh the joys of being color blind.

1994 F150 Running Rich And Surging on Idle
My truck is doing the same thing, I changed almost all sensors, the complete fuel system, and a few smaller things. One thing I haven’t replaced is my computer. (HOG1) i pulled it out and I had to leaky capacitors and a chip had a few corroded pins. Maybe check out your computer? They are durable but the capacitors are a big con. Let me know.
