Still looking for medium truck wrecking yard in the PNW

Seems that all of the auto recyclers / wrecking yards that dealt with the medium duty stuff have gone away. I have found light truck and class 8 trucks, but has anyone found a yard that also deals in the class 4,5,6 and 7 trucks?

Thanks, David

I haven't been to their yard, but I got a FT exhaust manifold from Bear Creek Motors (425) 481-1300 I figure if they had one of those they must have some other good stuff hanging around.

EDIT: There's a guy in Seattle's Geogetown district that has at least 5 Ford c-series trucks and what appears to be a small scrap operation. I haven't stopped in yet so i don't know what his plans are for them.

Not many medium duty wreckers around here... If you find any other yards, shoot me a message!

Budget Truck in Auburn has the occasional medium duty show up, but they're mostly light duty.

Hello Sam,

Thanks for the heads up. Bear Creek was trying to sell a International dump on Craigslist, I did not have any idea that they were also in parts. I will make a call.

There used to be a great truck yard up where they built the Top Foods in Edmonds on Hwy 99, they moved up by Paine Field but appear gone now. Of course that was probably close to or 20 years ago now.

Ya I have seem those C series sitting there in Georgetown, haven't had a chance to stop by either, but it looks like there is also a CT or two mixed in.

I will keep my eye out for the both of us!

Contact FTE member camperspecial65 (rott_weiler33@yahoo.com). He's retired, lives in Olympia, scrounges dozens of PNW wrecking yards, knows where "all the bodies are buried."

Well right now I am looking for a up to 1972 C series automatic truck to get the entire automatic system from, that being the MT30 or 40 tranny, the linkages, the shifter, the retarder pedal, the cooler, lines and all the other small items that are now impossible to find. Transmissions I can find, even rebuilt Allison's, but all of the small detail parts are not so easy to find.

I would even consider buying a complete donor truck.

I am also looking for a complete C series drum to drum two speed rear axle, with gasoline gear ratios, 17,500 or 18,500 lbs capacity with spring set air brakes. I prefer the 17,500 with the six lug stud pattern, but am open to the ten lug pattern providing I can get rims with it.

Pretty specialized stuff I know. I have a line on a second C series that I would like to get, but it is a manual and I would need to convert it to a automatic prior to my putting it in service.

Thanks, David

When was the last time y'all were in Twisp? 2010, I took a 2,000 mile road trip of WA back roads looking at the scenery, the old rolling piles of misery scenery, that is.

Highway 20, parked next to an auto repair shop on the north side of Twisp is a 1956 COE wrecker. In the center of town is a 1930 or 1931 Model AA Flatbed mounted atop a sign, 20' off the ground.

On the south side of town is a field containing dozens of old rolling piles of misery, including a C Series Tilt Cab and an early 1950's Dodge wrecker.

Whiz east of Twisp to Brewster, in the center of town on the north side is a series of sheds that contain old farm equipment and an AC Mack Bulldog.

There's another AC Mack Bulldog in the Cascades Locks Museum. Y'all need to stop "doing the Puyallup" and go out and beat the bushes instead.

There's a C series fire truck for sale on the Seattle craigslist that will have most of that.. Has a 3208 that smokes.. Guy was asking 2 grand.. Not sure about that rear end.. The truck i have with the auto doesnt have a 2 speed rear. Doubt the fire truck will either.. Definitely 10 lug..

NB, it has been some time since I have been over to eastern WA. There was a early 60's C series in Finlay that was a side dumper that intrigued me. Thanks for the heads up on Twisp.

No more "do the Puyallup" after all these years it was renamed as "the State Fair" Went big time I guess.

Thanks again! David

Thanks for passing this along. I actually went out and looked at this truck, with the thought of installing a 8 yard rock box and a air drop axle as it is a 153" wheelbase. Nice enough guy, but the engine not only smokes, it is also not running on all the cylinders - bad valve or a hole in a piston, could not get the cab up to check for blow by which would have given a bit more information. This is the extended fire truck cab so it is hydraulic.

Could not move it either as the spring brakes were manually released at the air chambers, some of the air brake hosing was cut and it would not build air pressure.

It has a 1160 Cat, what appears to be a 5 speed MT653 and a single speed rear axle. Not bad shape at all overall. Has some nice chrome add ons that unfortunately are starting to rust from sitting / age.

I looked into a reman engine, but evidently Cat no longer supports the hybrid 3208 with the 1160 front cover reman engines any longer. One of the main differences between the 1160 and the 3208 is the front drive layout.

Just too much money for me given the unknowns. Not being able to drive it or move it, I have no idea if it will shift thru all five gears & what is wrong with the brake system. The transmission also is a later model so it does not have the built in retarder system, which is something I am looking for.

But thank you for looking out for a truck!

David
