I have Random ???'s

I have some random questions that I need some clearification on.

1) I don't know where/how the horn contact wire is suposed route out to the wire harness.

2) I was wondering how the original spare tire was mounted in the styleside? Right now I have a long bolt jutting out from the drivers side front corner for the wheel to go on.

3) I am not quite sure where exactly the oil temp. sensor is supposed to go either.

4) I was wondering if anyone else has bought a new speedometer cable? I did, and the drive gear that goes on the end of the cable just pops off. It is like I need to cut off some of the cable.

The horn wire run down thru the center of the column and comes out the bottom of the gear and then plugs into the harness on the left inner fender area.

Some stylesides used a spare tire frame mounted just behind the cab on the drivers door. There may be eveidence of holes where it use to be in the top of the bed side.

What engine are you working with?

I am still using original speedo cable that has been soaked in blasted and the relubed and installed.

The 8' bed had a place to store the spare under the bed, behind the rear end.

That's a good point, not really a great place to keep a spare in upstate NY but a good point none the less!

Well the inside of my box front drivers corner has a vertical brace for mounting the spare tire. I will get pics later.

I am working with a 239 OHV Y Block. I know one goes on the back side of the driverside head just behind the intake, but I am not sure which.

Do you remember if your gear had some movement in it? So there isn't any pressure on the gear from the cable. I am thinking I am going to have to cut off a little bit of the cable. Because otherwise the plastic gear might end up in the bottom of the tail stock.

I have another serious question.

So today I was going to mount my new bumpers but the brackets I have for the front bumper don't work on the bumper that I bought out of the book. I bought the bumper from LMC the premium chrome front bumper (57-60). In fine print it says it was originally for the 59 and 60 models but will fit the 57 and 58 models.

Was there a different bracket for 59 and 60?

I have a bracket that bolts to the side of the frame and then to the front and top side of the (front) bumper. I will post a pic later.

The horn wire comes out the end plate of the gear, the adjuster nut on my '60 is on the side of the gearbox. Do you have a shop manual. The '60 manual has great pics of that stuff.

Looks like you have the correct spare tire carrier, those are kind of hard to come by from round these parts. I am not sure what was used on the end of the bolt to retain the tire since I don't have a complete assembly nor have I been able to find a pic in the shop manual or the parts catalog. However, my wife thinks I am blind from timt to time.

I don't know the info you need on a 239. If you don't find it here, look in the Yblock forum Y-Block V8 (239, 272, 292, 312, 317, 341, 368) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums as well.

The bumper question is easily solved with a master parts catalog. I haven't had time to look thru mine for you. I figured out the horn button today. The shaft had a couple inches of greese and goop built up in the end.

I will maybe mock up and hang an old wheel once and see how it mounts with what I have?

I was thinking about my water line the last couple days and today I blasted my steel water line for my Fordomatic tranny. It comes up from tranny across the top of the intake and to the water pump. I am thinking about eliminating he steel line because there is one spot rusted all the way around. Along with a few more pin hole scattered around. I just think that is a good sign that rusting through will be a really frequent problem.

I have a second one from one of my dads motors but it has a pretty good kink along with a few pin holes as well.















Do you think its a good idea eliminating it? I am guessing it will be a pretty hard line to find being it's for a Fordomatic.

Well I think I figured out the bumper thing. The brackets that I have came from a different style bumper. 3 of the pictures are of the new bumper I bought. Which is originally a 59-60 pickup bumper and the last picture is a picture of the bumper my brackets came from. The bumper my brackets came from is the original style bumper for 57-58 pickups. So I need to find a 59-60 pickup bumper to steal the brackets from.

I have thinking about ordering tires. I have the original 15" x 5" innie tab steel wheels. I am just unsure what size tires I really need. I have these 3 different tire sizes from the junk tires on these wheels I have.

8.45-15
6.70-15
and H78-15

I am also going thru the process on hooking up the steel pre-bent fuel lines. I am unsure where the large fuel line is supposed to route (the fuel line from fuel pump back to cab corner).

Does it go over/under/thru transmission cross member? Which end goes to what (one end almost makes a 90 deg. turn where the other bends only a little)? I do know there is supposed to be a flexable hose on each end of this line.

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank You!!

That's cool you have the correct wheels. I only have one so far. 6.70 x 15 was a size used back in the day. I have 205/65R15 on mine which are fairly cose to that.

The long piece of steel gas line goes across the back side of the cross member. there should be a couple quarter inch holes for the bolts to hold the tabs which secure it in place. sometimes when I got stuck putting mine back together and there were not any pics in the manual or master parts catalog, I would go thru pics in folks galleries looking for clues for under the hood details and such.

^ Pictured front bumper with bumper guards: No truck had a bumper like this, it's from a 1954 or 1955/56 Ford Passenger Car!

Bumper pics from 1949/59 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog. Notice the 1952/53 bumper doesn't have the V shape in the center.

You are not going to be able to find bumper brackets for a 1957/60 F100/350 front bumper...because there aren't any. Bumper bolts directly to frame horns.

The ONLY front bumper brackets listed in the 1957/63 Ford Truck Parts Catalog are for 1961/63 F100/350's & Econolines.
