1960 F100 Disc Brake Kit Question...

I just installed the ECI Disc Brake Kit on the front of my '60 F100. Ran into a bunch of issues that were all answered AFTER THE FACT, by a "how to" here on this site. (I should have checked here first!)

Installation of Manual or Power Brakes Disc Brakes in a 1957 - 1964 F100 .: Articles

Step 3 says to check the location of the king pin retaining nut and says it needs to be on the front side of the axle. My buddy started the installation on the passenger side (he moved the nut) while I worked on the master cylinder adapter and bench bled it. I felt left out of the fun, so I just took over on the driver's side with his instruction, and he forgot that part. Now, the whole kit is installed, and this nut on the drivers side wasn't moved. It has obviously rubbed on the new caliper bracket because it's shiny now.

My question: Does everything need to come off again, or can I just move the front wheels to one side or another to gain access, as long as I don't move the spindle when this pin is out?
Also, how does the pin come out? Hit it with a hammer a few times and punch it out the other end?

Thanks.

Seems to me they are tapered and yes, tap them out backward from the threads.

1960 F100 Disc Brake Kit Question...

Right Spur, but may I suggest to leave the nut on, just fully covering the treads to begin pounding the pin out. After breaking it loose, remove the nut and using a correct sixe drift finish driving the tapered bolt/pin out. You will notice some flutes in the OD of the pin. These will have to make mating flutes in the opposite side of the axel when driving the pin back in. The nut may not have thread strength enough to pull the pin into position, so as you tighten the nut with the lock washer behind it, tap the pin in to follow the nut. Should work fine that way.

Alright, I guess I'll jump in there when I get the time.

Do I need to take the caliper, rotor, and bracket off, now, or can I just crank the wheel so that I have access to the back nut and do it with that stuff in place? The bracket doesn't interfere with anything on the front of the axle, I know that it says not to move the spindle with the pin out, but does the spindle need to be perpendicular when I take it out and replace it in the opposite direction?

The spindle won't care which way it is turned, just leave it in the same posistion for the whole job!

Good to hear. I figure I'll only jack up that one side, so that the passenger tire's friction on the floor will help to hold the driver's side spindle from moving.

Thanks.

Thanks to all for the assistance on this. I did it this morning. It came out A LOT easier than I thought it was going to, but took A LOT more persuasion to get it back in than I thought it was going to.

Over all, how would you rate this mod in terms of difficulty? I thought about doing this but decided to tackle it later. I know it would be easier now with the front half of the truck off, but not gonna duit, too poor
