2003 Ford explorer 4.0 L automatic, Can not remove key from ignition, key does not appear to be turning back completely to position 1. The buzzer continues going off even if all doors closed

 

The key may be bent this happened to me. Try squirting a little wd in there and see if you can wiggle it out. You may have to call a lock smith.

 

Also make sure the truck is fully engaged in Park. You might want to try shifting to neutral and back to Park. Also, you might need to slightly turn the steering wheel to unload the key lock so you can turn the key all the way back.

We had same problem. Key just one day got stuck and would not go back to the "position 1" unable to get key out.

very difficult to explain what the issue is but I took some pictures.

This is what seems to be broken.

It was freezing out today so I didn't mess with it too much but was finally able to get the key out.

By pushing on the blue connector looking part and mating the pieces that look to be broken in picture, you can hear and even feel the click that then allows you to turn key back to the "position 1" and remove the key with ease.

I have no Idea what I'm looking at or even where to start. If anybody can chime in would greatly appreciate it.
If I could just find this part I would love to avoid the dealer and attack this myself
