What's a good catback exhaust system for the 5.0 f150?

I have a good friend with a 5.0 f150, 2011. He has asked me to make him a catback exhaust system. His requirements are that it sound great when on the throttle and is quiet when it is on the freeway. I already make a system which fits those requirements on Gen2 Tundra'sBAMUFFLER installed - TundraTalk.net - Toyota Tundra Discussion Forum

Both my friend and I think that I can do the same thing with the f150 but there really isn't many exhaust system threads on this forum. Is there a preferred system for these trucks? I'd imagine guys are going to want their trucks to sound similar to the 5.0 Mustang, anyone got any links they could post to some pretty good exhaust builds? Maybe a favorite bolt on cat back, and a long tube true duals race only system?

I just built this today:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/94201225@N08/8682047577/" title="Tundra Obx long tubes complete bolt on exhaust system. by bamufflers, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8126/8682047577_11cd3e84cd_b.jpg" width="768" height="1024" alt="Tundra Obx long tubes complete bolt on exhaust system."></a>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/94201225@N08/8683160490/" title="Tundra Obx long tubes complete bolt on exhaust system. by bamufflers, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8538/8683160490_70812230e3_b.jpg" width="768" height="1024" alt="Tundra Obx long tubes complete bolt on exhaust system."></a>
It's designed to bolt to OBX long tube headers on a 2010+ tundra. I also do bolt on cat back systems. Either system will make the truck sound great but they go silent on the freeway above 65mph.

well, let's start from here, under federal regs/law & enforceable by any law enforcement agency (including USDA, Fish & Game) or AQMD or EPA staff.....you are not suppose to touch (dealer only) the cats for 8 years or 80K miles, which ever comes first......the smog guys (depending on your location) will also check for this......and the aftermarket cats...well, they really do not flow that much more than the oem units.....while you may gain some sound, hp, lucky if you see 5-10 hp at peak rpm.

and while you are likely not to see fines (like a business would)......if your "buddy" gets caught and spills about who made it for him & installed it......you are looking (for real) at a criminal conviction (yes a misdemeanor, but it still is going to be on your record forever)

just my 2 cents.

I apologize as I mis-read and thought for some reason you were removing the cats too.....

Allied makes a great set of resonators (and builds most of the more popular industry's mufflers as well) that come in just about any size, diameter & length (10"" to 38"" IIRR)....they have been around for 30+ years and available nationwide from just about any muffler shop (costs are $40-$60 each- wholesale will be less)...if you have to order, typical 24 delivery.

Definitely have to play with the system a bit to get the sound....IMHO- I would look at 28"-30" lengths for the resonators. I have duel 26" inchers on mine....and if I could, I would measure very close to see if I could properly fit the longest I could get in there.

I am looking to make a bolt on cat back system, and a full race with long tube headers system. Both will be made so that customers can choose how loud or quiet they will be But given the lack of attention this thread has received I doubt there is much interest in this type of thing. Maybe it's just too new? Anybody????

Not so fast there. Where are you located? Something like this would be better seen/discussed face to face.

Bump, any feedback at all? I can't believe there isn't a demand for a quality catback that bolts on these trucks

Oh man, I hate my Roush. Outside it sounds alright, in the cab, forget listening to the radio, let alone a conversation in a normal voice. The drone is practically unbearable. I do like the dual tips.

haha, I knew it it's very hard to make a great sounding cat back without it being loud on the freeway. That's where I come in. I make a great catback system for the Tundra that sounds like a performance V8 when on the throttle, but is bone stock quiet on the freeway. I WILL do this for the 5.0 as well. I realize there is already a lot of cat back systems on the market for the f150, after all they're the best selling pick up on the planet, but I use technology that the big guys can't afford to use

Quick Reply: What's a good catback exhaust system for the 5.0 f150?
