I think its from a big truck, 5DC62 is cast in below the GEMMER. Any help would be appreciated. The mounting flange is bigger than our 57 F100.

A larger size unit was used on the bigger trucks. However, the last pic of the end plate with the adjustment screw and lock nut looks a little different than I expected. I have the larger Gemmer unit in my F100. Took a few modifications but worth the extra mechanical advantage you gain. I can't give any help with the casting numbers and doubt if you will ever unlock their mystery!

 

I would like to put this in a 57 F100, how did you do it? Trim the casting, open up frame area? Thanks

 

I left the casting alone and just drilled the holes I needed. It fit inside the frame. It was a little tricky to make sure it was installed at the same angle to fit up next to the bottom of the dash. You will also have to make a change with the clutch return spring if you are using one.

 

I finally found it in this book. that gearbox is out of a late model 1963 F350 part number C3TZ 3504-W

 

5DC62 = C3TZ-3504-W .. Steering Gear Box.

1963/66 F350 model 84 Chassis & Cowl Open Drive-Away (no windshield, no cab).

Model 84 steering gear housing, steering shaft and worm are different than F100/350 model 81 conventional cab.

C3TZ-3524-N shaft & worm F100/350 81 conventional cab: 40 7/16" long / C3TZ-3524-R shaft & worm F350 model 84: 45 7/16" long.
