Shorty headers

Shorty headers
I'm looking to redo my exhaust system on my "stock" 1984 f-150. Carbureted 302 with 4x4 however the 4x is currently disconnected because of a rear axl swap I had to do (non-matching gear ratios) and depending on if I can find the right transmission or not (used and at an affordable price to me) I may dump the transfer case entirely.
The consensus from what I've researched in this forum is mustang shorty headers. Anyone have a particular brand they've used and what year mustang did you order the headers for? I'm looking for something affordable (prefferably cheap) and just don't know where to start. Also, where do I find a crossover pipe? I need to redo the entire exhaust from the engine back. I want to include my cat. converter for the sake of not getting a huge fine if I get roadside checked. I cut the converter out a few months ago thinking it might have been plugged only to find someone already gutted it. Its just a shell and needs to be in place so it looks like it's operational.
I'd also open to any cat-back exhaust systems you can reccomend that are affordable. This isn't a restoration more than a replacement job. My truck is my work rig and i want it to sound nice and not have exhaust leaks. New manifolds cost as much as a cheapy set of headers that I've seen so I might as well go with headers??? Is there any benefit on a stock engine with 165,000 miles? Eventually I may rebuild the motor so I'm not just looking for a band-aid but an exhaust system that may benefit me down the road if I go through a rebuild.
Anyone get headers from Summit racing?
Thanks for the input.
