4.9L performance parts
Ive been trying to decide what i wanna do with my truck. Ive had 4 camaros up till now so im used to something fast and i think it would be really cool to make my truck fast enough to compete at stoplight races with some other kinda fast cars. Ive called around and found like 12 lightnight motors locally but for one with 55k miles they want around 3 grand for it...one with 110k miles goes for around 2100 around here. So i was thinking id either save ALOT and drop in one of those...maybe buy a 351W and modify it and drop that in....orrr...do something to my 4.9L. What do you guys think? what would be the best combo of money spend/power id get out of it/easyness of the project since im a college student and wont have an enormous amount of time...im thinking modding up the 4.9 may be my best bet....but i dunno...let me know ...or any ideas you may have i didnt think of
oh and please feel free to send any 4.9L mod webpages my way if you know any

Better off changing the motor to a 351. The 351 is a very strong motor. The 300 is a workhorse, not ment to go fast. Cliffordperformance.com has some parts but they are expensive and you'd be wasting your money. The 4.9L is not going to get your truck moving fast, it only has about 160hp stock and 260ft-lbs of torque. It'll pull anything but it won't pull it fast. I have one in my 7,000lbs van, they are used in fed ex trucks and ups trucks because you can't kill em and they have loads of power. I heard one go 480k and another 500k. Look into an engine swap if you're serious about getting some speed. If you only want to pick up some minor horses, you can open up the exhaust, get an MSD ignition, electric fans, air intake, possibly a cam, basic things like that but to get any serious power out of it, would be better off getting a V-8.

Keep in mind you can sell that 4.9 and get most of your money back.

Forced induction would make that engine wear out quicker, there is no kit available for the six but I guess some people are trying to make one which would take a lot of mechanical skills.

It was more of a joke suggestion than reality, the six won't ever be a fast engine. Reliable and strong , it always will be.
I'd spend some money to make your truck nicer first, then do an engine swap.
