1956 Ford COE
Hello, I just purchased a 56 COE and I am beginning to look for parts. At the moment I really need the U Joint caps and bolts to hook the drive shaft back up. The guy I bought it from lost them. I am assuming the bolts are probably at least a 10-12 grade? It has the eaton back transaxle. Does anyone know if I can possibly find these locally at a commercial truck shop or if I need original hardware? I am also looking for the right side fender steps and a back window. I am sure I can get some glass cut but I would love to have the fomoco stamp on the window. I was also wondering if it was standard to have no door lock on the drivers side door? My truck has a lock on the passenger side but nothing on the drivers side. I appreciate any info anyone wants to share as this is my first COE. I am in Oregon and would also love to meet some other COE owners if there are any around. Thanks in advance and all the best, Damion

It has the Eaton back transaxle.
Transaxle only used with front wheel drive, do you mean an Eaton single or 2 speed rear axle?

These parts you're asking about are obsolete, but may be available NOS. But first, I need to know...
There is more than just one series of COE's, which COE is it? C500 - C600 - C700 - C750 - C800 - C900?
Once I know which COE you have, I'll post the parts catalog pic that shows the driveshaft and attaching parts.
Back glass same .. all 1953/56 trucks except panels and P Series Parcel Delivery. You will most likely need a new weatherstrip, reproduced, available from all the repro parts sellers.
For many years, it was standard operating procedure to lock the left door, then slide over the seat, exit the right door.
Many streets did not have painted divider lines, traffic was chaotic with vehicles whizzing all over the place, so automakers didn't want people to exit the left door then step out into traffic.
By the 1950's, things began to change. 1955/56: Custom Cabs came with R & L door lock cylinders, Standard Cabs only came with the R/door lock cylinder.
FTE has an OR Chapter and a WA Chapter, I suggest you join both. The OR Chapter leader is fabmandeluxe who is also an FTE moderator. I believe he lives in the Baker area.
