F250 Lariat or Platinum

Have something I'd like everyones opinion on. I'm about to get into a new f250 or f350. I'm been looking at used 2011+ Lariats w the 6.7. Well after combing through used ads, I'm seeing that many dealerships have new 2012 or 2013s for sale for roughly the same price as a used. This has me thinking I might just go for a new one. Anyway, the package I'm looking for is a Lariat, Lariat Ultimate package, and the 6.7 diesel. MSRP is around $58k with this configuration. Well, the other day I was at a local dealership where they had a F250 Platinum. This particular Platinum did not have the diesel, but this got me thinking. A Platinum configured with the 6.7 & a moonroof is right at 60k MSRP. Only 2k more than the Lariat. If I'm spending this much change on a vehicle, 2k is a pretty small difference.

So should on switch my search to a platinum? I didn't get to spend to much time crawling around the platinum, but the interior seemed to have a few more bells and whistles and just seems nicer overall. Anybody know of any other differences between the lariat and the Platinum? I can't seem to find much on the Ford site. Opinions are welcome.

By the way, both of these trucks in a 2013 config seem to be going for 10k under MSRP.

Haven't seen the Plats live yet, but I have 2011 Lariat Ultimate w/ the heated and a/c seats up front. The leather is different in the center sections and scratches/scuffs really easy. Slightest anything on passenger pants or pockets seems to leave a mark. Require my wife and daughter to put down a towel when they wear their "bling" jeans. Other than that, I love the interior and it's held up well with normal care. They are both beautiful rigs. Hard to go wrong either way.

Really. Thats pretty crazy to hear about the seats. That was the first Platinum I have seen in person. They did not have a Lariat Ultimate there though so it was a little hard to compare in my head. I have since seen one and from what I can remember, there are just several litte differences. I also really like the Pecan seats. I have them in my F150 and they are just gorgeous. That alone might be work the extra 2k. The only thing I could see going wrong with the Platinum is they seem to be a little more rare. So it might be harder to get them down on pricing.

Go to page 260 on the link below and you can see the differences in the packages:

Nice! That is just what I was looking for. Seems to be a lot more chrome pieces on the Platinum over the Lariat.

Glad to help!

My .02, not a big fan of the Platinum, the tailgate looks terrible imo. I could peel the stickers off the bedsides no problem, but that tailgate, man that would have to go...

agreed. I think the platinum is hideous and doesn't really offer anything worth going over the Lariat Premium or whatever they are calling it these days.....I am prob. a bad example though because I quite like my XL with no frills lol.

I'd vote for the Lariat. The Platinum is a nice truck, just a little too overdone IMO.

I'm a big fan of the XLT's...the less bells and whistles then the less stuff to break someday.

A heated steering wheel does sound nice though... haa haa. My truck warms up so darn quick that it wouldn't be worth it. The 6.7 on the other hand...

I'd really like to see the two next to each other. But I think I might be leaning towards the Lariat. I really really like the interior of the platinum, but I like the exterior of the lariat a lot more. I absolutely do not like the Platinum down the bed. By the way, those are raised letters, not a sticker. The tailgate I actually like. I have it on my F150 and it has grown on me. All the little chrome pieces I could do without. IDK. It will be a tough decision. I think seeing both in person together would let me make a decision.

The platiun has that tailgate I don't like. Maybe they could switch it out then it might be all right.

My 6.7 has heated seats and the auxiliary cabin heater. Not a problem

Sorry man, I can't resist:

And for the record, I'm a huge fan of both motors, but I know the warm up times on the diesels has been brought up in the past.

The Platinum is based on the Lariat, it even has Lariat emblems on the side of my truck, included in the same badge that says F250.
When I bought mine, it was explained to me that a Platinum and a King Ranch are both Lariats with some of the options included as standard equipment.
I like the tailgate, but I'm coming out of a '95 F350 XLT, and it also had the brushed metal tailgate.

Ps, I also like all the trucks on here.
