Hey Fellas,

I was curious if anyone knows any place in Mass/RI/CT...screw it, New England....where I can get front and rear 4.88 gears installed on my 2006 F150 FX4. I have talked with a place in Shrewsbury, MA called Mitchell Drivetrain that quoted me $2632.38 for everything but that seems wicked high. I know people in LA can get it done for 2100 and people in Oklahoma and Texas can get it for 1700-2000. I understand everything is more expensive up here and that shops are a dime a dozen but there has to be other shops. I am just looking for other places that would be trustworthy as I am not going to just drop it off at any ol' shop and have them do it.

Im sure this job is already done but just to add. Mitchell's is a great shop and stand by their work. I'm not sure about gearing but they made all my custom axle shafts. Elias is also another great local 4x4 shop. Have no experience with Becks.

There is also Wzorek's in Westfield MA. I have heard good things about them from a few people and reportedly as of a few years ago, they would do a diff for $175 if you supplied parts/install kits etc and brought them the axles out of the the truck.

Mitchell's is out near me, they do quality work (I had them cut down and rebalance a driveshaft for me a few years ago) but that does seem expensive.

 

Not bad Ken. Ford fan first. Jeeps second.

I've heard mixed reviews about Wzorek's but no personal experience.

06F150CFCT - I believe an 06 would have a high pinion 8.8" front and a low pinion 9.75" rear? What brand gears did Mitchell say they would be using? I see USA Standard (reportedly louder gears) 4.88s for around 160 a diff on RockAuto and Nitros on JustDifferentials for around 260 a diff. Add to that a master install kit for each diff (150/front and 250/rear) and possibly around 100/diff worth of other materials (RTV, lube, bearings to make setup bearings, etc) and the materials should cost around 1100 bucks I believe. Beyond that it is labor - gear setup is not easy, but it's not incredibly difficult either if you are patient. If you have access to a lift and the tools there is a good chance you can do it yourself with some patience/attention to detail, but expect to spend at least several hours, probably a day on each one, that's how long it took me to do my first (and so far only) diff regear.

It doesn't appear that FMS makes 4.88s for the 8.8 (that I can find anyways) but Motive and Strange also appear to.
