power lift gate opening itself when parked & NAV screen Agree?

Hi out there - we're the proud owners of an 07 EL we just took possession of on Monday, can anyone tell me why the liftgate randomly opens? I came home, parked the truck and as I was getting out the tailgate opened - I closed it and went inside, when I went out 10 minutes later and it was open.

Also, will I have to press "Accept" on the Nav/DVD screen EVERY TIME I DRIVE?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

On my '07 Navigator I only have to press "Agree" to use the Navigation features, not all the other stuff.

Those radios can be reprogrammed by the dealer. Perhaps there's updated software that won't nav-nag you as much.

Wild guess on the liftgate... is the keyfob in a pocket where the button might inadvertently be getting pushed?

Good luck with the gremlins... I think you'll be happy once you get that sorted out.

Thanks GP, the Nav/radio works but every time I start the truck it asks me to Accept or Decline. Was/is that the case on yours?

The first time it opened the fob was in my pocket, leaving the store last night I started the truck and the liftgate opened but not all the way - that was with the key & fob at the ignition.

I really don't want to take it to the dealer.....

There was another member having a problem with the power liftgate and I recommended resetting it and I think it helped so you could try it ?

1. Disconnect the battery for 20 seconds, then reconnect it.

2. Manually close and latch the liftgate.

3. Power open the Liftgate with the button on the dash or remote.

Usually the liftgate will reopen if there is an obstuction when closing so check that too.

As for the "AGREE" on the NAV screen, if you have the Audio ( radio, CD, SR, etc...) screen on when you shut off the vehicle the "agree" prompt shouldn't come on when the vehicle is started. Of course this assumes you dont have a destination punched in and mapped out so make sure all routes are cancelled. Anytime you are going to use the NAV feature/screen you will have to agree to the prompt, it's Fords way of a disclaimer that if you crash while punching in a destination they are not responsible.

Thanks Matt, I've already copied your post and planned to try it - will that lose all my radio presets and whatnot too?

There's no plug I can pull to the liftgate module to reset it?

That DVD/NAV agree thing is a pita! Oh well.....

Matt is spot on. You have a route in the Nav set so it's getting you to agree to the Terms of using the Nav. Go to destination and cancel the route and it won't pop up anymore. You won't lose the presets on the radio but will lose any of the little settings like time/date on upper right, and think the presets get bumped for PTY or something like that initially.

ok disconnected the battery for 20 minutes and then tried to reset the liftgate - what do they mean by "manually close and fully latch the liftgate" Doesn't that just mean shut it by hand or does the fully latch mean I need to lock the doors?

Anyhow, I opened and closed it; then used the keyfob and it worked fine so I went in the house. My son went out to walk the dog and asked me why I had the liftgate open? !!!!!! WTH? Do I need to lock the doors to keep this from happening or is some idiot hiding in my bushes with their fob sync'd to my truck just messing with me?

Liftgate problem solved!

The spare transmitter was/is bad and randomly acts as though I've pressed the tailgate open button.

2010 navigator lift gate problem

Hey I got a 2010 navigator that started to open on its own and close and it sounds like the same thing I was wondering if you can point out where actually you found the pinch wire I’m trying to do this and not take it anywhere just where to start

When you pull that inner panel off the liftgate, follow the wires clipped to the gate, you'll see one pinched at one of the push/clip connectors that hold the panel to the gate.

If you push the Media button on the radio it brings up the radio screen. Then when you turn the car on the radio screen is supposed to stay on and the navigation part of the radio stays off. You will not have to see the 'Agree' screen.
Every time you push the Map button you will have to 'Agree' all over again when the radio comes on.
I don't think you can get around the Agree step in these radios.
Good luck,
Richard - 2007 Navigator
