serial no

This is the serial # listed on my tag, 4991018YK-56677, but from what I read and research it doesn't make sense to how is should read. It should start with F10 and go from there. I would like to know what size of motor is this? Is it a 272 or 292? How do I tell

jamhh; Do you have the data tag on your glove box door. It will show your serial number and other pertinent info.

Frame rail # for mine is on the top of right hand frame rail just in front of fire wall below battery. I think special ordered truck info is put in the DSO space on your Data plate just after the RPM info.

Look at the data plate posted by Jones, bottom row last space DSO Domestic special order. Our resident guru Numbersdummy Bill says the decoding (of the DSO #) information is no longer available. But the DSO # is where ford factory posted special order info.

Sure it does!

US begins with F10 and goes from there, Canada does not until 1966. I would like to know what size of motor is this? Is it a 272 or 292? How do I tell?
Where do you live? Profile sez Canada, so what would expect the serial number to refer to?

Look at the Rating Plate, it says: Ford Motor Company of Canada Limited Your truck was assembled and sold new in Canada. I can decode most of it.

4 = V8 / 99 = Styleside Pickup / 10 = 100 Series / 18 = 118" Wheelbase / Y = ? / K = ? / 56677 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly.

Engine size/trans type and etc. listed separately on Rating Plate. For further info: mercurypickups.com.

Pic in post 4: US only. Canadian Rating Plate looks nothing like it and ALL the codes are different.

US thru 1962: There's no DSO code listed, unless the truck was a Domestic Special Order.

Never been to Alberta, only to British Columbia, Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Dad's family were Tory's, after the American Revolution, moved from Cape Cod to Cape Sable Island. Family moved back to MA in 1900.

Family reunion held on Cape Sable Island June 2006.

I was 15 in 1959 (now 68 ). I'd be willing to bet you hadn't been born yet.
