I need some help deciding. I am looking at a Continental Cargo 38' Gooseneck trailer.

GVWR: 15,600 - I know this is more than my truck can handle, but I might be upgrading to a 350 in a few years. Plus don't 15k worth of stuff right now, but I might in the future.
Hitch weight: 1,364 - Could my truck handle that much on a gooser?

Other than that I am just looking for some real world opinions. Has anyone put anything that big and heavy on their truck? How did it work out? I've looked into Continental Cargo a bit and I can't find any really bad reviews. The trailer itself is a triple 5,200 lb torsion axle setup with cabinets and everything else...except a damn generator.

As far as my truck, I have an '11 250, 6.2, 3.73's(I know I suck ) Super Cab, SWB. I do have some power adding stuff like AFE Stage 2 intake, catback flowmaster, and a 5 star from Mike.

I would love some opinions about both pulling a trailer that big, and continental cargo. Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it.

 

I tow a 302 Fuzion toy hauler with a '08 F250, V10. Never weighed it but figure it to be 14,000 loaded with a pin weight heavier than what you are talking. Air bags to help the rear springs.

Rig handles good enough, but if I was towing something like this on a daily or even weekly basis, I would have a dually smoker.

 

It would never be a daily or weekly haul. I am just looking to get something I can take to track days(sportbikes) and move all of my crap at the same time, inside a quality trailer. I am done with having to cover all of my crap with tarps and tie it down in my current open trailer. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

 

At the last Ohio meet, the trailer was over 16k lbs. That was a short pull though (couple miles), but, for what it's worth, the pedal was MASHED. The truck didn't hiccup, performed solidly. It even chirped the tires at the start, truck was stock at the time.

What kind of terrain are you pulling on? Hills? Flatland? How far would you be towing?

Could you go with a slightly smaller trailer? What about a toy hauler 5er?

 

So when I was still in the army I bought a few trailers. Always wishing I could haul more weight. Currently I'm in Afghanistan as a contractor saving for school when I get done with this contract. I had planned, initially on getting a toy hauler and living in it while going to school. Turns out it's more expensive to live in a KOA than getting a small apartment. So now I am back to goosenecks because I dint want to be caught wishing I could haul more weight.

Its not going to be a weekly hauler or monthly even. It's for me to get all my crap out to school then on to my next job where ever that may be. Then an odd trip or two to see my buddy in NC and do some riding. The terrain will be super hilly leaving northern CA going to NV and Reno then flatten out afterward. So that's about it. I just don't want to be caught lacking or wishing I had spent the money in a better trailer.
