i recently went up to the new fenced area of my local menards (on 52 in joliet, il) and they have an autogas pump along with the bbq fill ups. both have to be done by customer service. but anyway this has re-lit the fire under my pants to get my old truck up and running on lpg.

just wanted to let everyone know and see if this is a national thing!

 

Right now (as far as I know anyway) this is a test market in northern Il.
I believe if they are sucessful they will roll it out in other markets.
You can also get autogas at most of the Love's truck stops.

i also heard the pilot stations will be getting autogas. but them and loves are out of range for me. i'd have to trailer my truck there to fill up for a weekend. thanks for the info.

 

I was talking to a sales rep for a propane conversion kit and he told me it was the whole state. Could have been just a line to make it seem like a better deal but I know Rockford, Woodstock and Machesney Park all have the autogas pumps.

 

what were you looking to convert? i see 2 diesels in your sig. and what company did you find in n. illinois? i am drawn to gotpropane.com. since my 64 will not have emissions to contend with. and it has a carburetor.

menards having auto gas makes this whole alt fuel thing work for me. i have no intention on taking the 64 out of the area. and ethanol is to difficult to make and produces to much waste for me. i have neighbors i cant have calling authorities on me.

 

Just noticed your reply now. I'm looking to upgrade my 7.3 powerstroke. I'm leaning towards a V10 on propane for my next newer truck.

My dad just picked up an 08 F-250 with a 5.4 and is in the process of having it converted to propane. Should be back next week. He is having Dibble Enterprises from Gardner, IL convert it. I'm eager to see how it runs.

 

wow, since i got my diesel i don't get down here often.
first time i've heard of 7.3 to a 6.8 as an upgrade. but i agree with lp powered 6.8 sounds right.
I'll have to call them about my '64. i wish it was more acceptable to convert suv's. my wife is killing me with her round town trips. costs more to get to grocery than the food

 

I'm about through with my diesel days. I threw 2 rods through the block of my original 7.3 and have grown tired of it after 7 years. I'm certainly not going to buy a 6.0 or 6.4. I'm impressed with my dad's 6.7 but they are out of my price range. I will be keeping my cummins powered 77, that's my long term project!

I'm looking to go a more simple route with lower maintenance costs and lower purchase cost. I figure if a 6.8 on propane can get 10 mpg for what I can buy the fuel for it will cost the same as a car getting 32 mpg on gasoline.

Back in the 80s my dad had a chevy 350 he ran on propane with a similar setup to the gotpropane unit. I think Dibble is only dealing with injected vehicles, but give them a call if you are interested, they are a good company to work with and very accommodating.

 

i'm just beginning my diesel days. i told the wife if i can get bio-d brewing consistently i'd be happy to trade her suv for a diesel. she digs the excursion. and this morning someone replied to a 4 month old ad for my '64, so there may be no gasoline engines in my driveway before too long.

where and how much $$$ are you getting propane? if you don't mind.

On the farm we have an 18,000 gallon propane tank. We buy it by the semi load, our price is probably within pennies of what Ferrel Gas or Hicks Gas is. The last load came in at $.91 a gallon.

I considered the bio route too. We use fat in the feed for our hogs so I have access to a plentiful source. A few loads were straight vegetable fat but I was nervous that I'd mess up the "brewing". I attempted to make a small batch but I don't think I had the correct ingredients and nothing really came of it. So I stopped there.

 

she neglected to tell me the potential purchaser was in florida, not northern il. so i still have the 64, kinda happy about that.

and you are buying way more than i can handle. i'm in a subdivision with a 1/4 acre. don't think i can even have a mounted propane tank. guess i'm stuck going to menards. haha have to get 'er running first.
