i found a 1985 bronco II that needs new timing gears and i want to fix it then sell it.

i would like to know how hard of a job it is on the 2.9l or if it is even worth it

 

The 2.9 does not have timing gears, it has a conventional sprockets and chain.

The 2.8 (what a 85 will have) has timing gears, and are relatively simple to replace if you have the tools and good mechanical abilities.

Yes, the 2.8 has gears, the orig. ones had a steel crank gear and a fiber cam gear, the new ones will be steel crank, and alum cam gear. They have to be installed as a set, the teeth angle is off a little and won't match well with the orig. To change the crank gear you need to drop the oil pan for enough clearance to remove the gear.
