Difference between ICP sensors

Sorry to step on your pee-pee Talyn, but I got to disagree with you here. No they're not the same. They are different parts. How, I don't know, but there are two different part number for pre '97 and post '97. They're shaped different too. I put a post '97 one in my truck and it ran, but it acted a little strange. I don't know what the functional differences are, and for all I know they may be interchangeable, but they are certainly NOT the same.
Two different part numbers too.
Riffraff Diesel Performance Parts | Ford 7.3 diesel | 7.3 powerstroke | Ford Powerstroke | 7.3L Powerstroke Parts
For what it is worth Riffraff used the same picture for both part numbers, but the shape of that sensor is the later sensor. The early sensor is round at the top and has a smaller hex section underneath.

So then, are they interchangeable? I'm just curious because I have several and they're not all the same type. I guess I should compare the resistance of them side by side and see if they read the same or not.
Now that I think of it, if the operating resistance of the sensors wasn't the same you couldn't cross over the PCMs between the years either (which you can). They must have just changed the design. I wonder why Ford still offers both sensors then.

Better check your color vision. I have a 97+ sensor (F6TZ-9F838-A,/14-022 Diesel O-Ring) with gold terminals?

Talking about ICP choices going forward... Over on the SD sub-forum we seemed to have noticed a bad run of ICP's coming from OEM suppliers a few months ago. Similar to the Alliant UVCH (1999 - 2003) that are now on backorder because Alliant themselves said there was a "problem with their manufacturer and quality control" and all supplies have been pulled back.
Anyway, an FTE'r ( @FordTruckNoob ) identified an alternative to the Motorcraft/International ICP as one made by Honeywell.

The longevity, life expectancy and feasibility of the Honeywell ICP is still in question though. I have linked it and provided it here simply as an alternative to OEM as these engines get a little older each day. There may be a day when we need to source reputable sensors from non-OEM sources due to lack of production or poor quality control practices by the manufacturers.
In addition, some information on counterfeit Motorcraft parts/sensors is below.

Good luck out there!
