460 into 2006 F250

I have a 2006 f250 with the 5.4L. bought it last year and I kind of wish i bought a truck with a lil bit more *****, like a diesel or the V10. I know someone who has a 460 and I was wondering if that would give my truck more power if i switched my 5.4 for that. Thanks

I love the 460. It is my favorite of all of the big blocks from the big three.
If I were running an older truck, a 460 would be my first choice in engines.

As for installing a 460 in an 06 it seems like a lot of work, and you may not be happy with the outcome.

You can install any engine in any vehicle if you want to spend enough money and are willing to do the work necessary. We once dropped a BT6 Cummins in a Chevy Crewcab Dually. I also swapped a SB GM V-8 into a Dodge 1/2 ton. Both worked, but there were always some bugs in them.

You will have to make everything from scratch for your 460 to 06 swap.

Exhaust system, brackets for the alt, PS, AC, possibly a custom oil pan? Your electrical system in your 06 will have to be modified, as you have a computerized truck and a non-comptuterized engine.

How will you make a 460 emissions legal for an 06 truck?

A cobbled together truck will costs you big at trade time or resale time. No one is going to pay 06 prices for a truck with an engine from a different era.

It would seem that a V10 swap makes more sense?

if you want more ***** as you say, you might consider a change in the rear end gear ratio rather then an engine? If you have a 3:55 gear now and switch it to a 4:10, your truck will gain a lot of pulling power.

Or you could trade your truck for a truck with a V10 or Powerstroke.
