Rear Disc Brakes on a 1991

What would be my best options for putting rear disc brakes on my 1991 F-250 Custom 2WD using Ford parts? I have seen that the F Super Dutys have rear disc brakes but i'm not sure if the brake hardware will interchange with my drum brake hardware on my 10.25" Sterling axle housing. Would it be easier and cheaper to swap out the whole rear axle assembly and if so what model and year of truck would be the best donor? F-350 or E-350 maybe? I want parking brakes that also work like normal ( at the Caliper ) without having to go to a Driveline brake. Thanks ahead of time for any information.

Is the conversion for towing and hauling?

the F-superduty used 10 lug bolt pattern, and the newer superdutys use a metric bolt patern
i would look into a 99 to 05 van rear brake setup. they still used the old 8X6.5 bolt pattern, but had disc brakes.

I plan to use the truck for towing a 26' fifth wheel travel trailer around the western US which is pretty mountainous. The Truck is equipped with the IDI 7.3 Diesel so it has plenty of torque for towing. I just want equally good stopping. I also like the ease of inspection and service on disc brakes a lot better then drums.

Did the van ever use a sterling axle? I thought they were Dana axles, but I might not remember that right.

You are right all the ones I have seen are Dana's as well so to go that route would probably require swapping in the whole axle assembly and relocating the Shock and spring mounts. It may still be worth doing though.

Since the subject heading is universal enough to "1991", I don't mind taking this a bit off-track... What about converting to discs on a F-150 of the same era vehicle? Is there an easy bolt-on solution that retains the stock 5 lug pattern?

Thanks Especially for the Four Wheeler Magazine Articule, I have heard of TSM before and they make a good product the only thing I don't like is the use of Chevy parts on my Ford It's kind of like putting a SBC in a 29' Ford Roadster Just because Generic Motors is common as dirt doesn't make me like them more! Thanks Again!

so if you go with ruff stuff's brackets, u eliminate the backing plate, bolt in brackets, and use 96 van rotors ?

dpd, theres conversion kits for 8.8's an 9" rears all over the net

Correct. You will also need to source calipers.

sooo, for $50 brackets, 2 rotors from a van, and eldorado calipers w/e-brake, my dually can have 4 wheel drilled an slotted rotors, without changing rears to '99 -05 ? I'm in
