matching gears on 4x4 1959

I have always been told that the front gears are one or two teeth higher then the rear end on the older Ford pickups. I have a 1959 F100 4x4 with 4:10 gears and want to put in higher gears. Before purchasing I want to know if the front gears are higher then the rear.

Thanks in advance for your responses

Yes, it is true. But, it doesn't really hurt anything as long as you don't have the front axle locked & the 4x4 engaged on dry driving surfaces (pavement). Having a slightly higher [by .01 or .02] (meaning lower numbered ratio) gears in the front axle help pull the rear axle a little (helps with steering) & supposedly help prevent driveline bind a little.

The original 59 F100 4x4 had a difference of .03 front to back, back 3.89:1 front 3.92:1.
I only point this out because you state
I have a 1959 F100 4x4 with 4:10 gears
so you may want confirm your ratio.
Good luck in your quest.
