three spoke steering wheel

I've seen contradictory info on whether the earlier three spoke steering wheel would fit in a dent'.
I like the look of them a lot more than the stock two spoke wheel. I want to use one on my "Pumpkin Project" but dont wan't to spend over $300.00 buying the wheel, horn ring, center medalion, etc. if it's not going to fit.
Well, I had a chance to check it out first hand .
My neighbor bought his grandson a '66 F100 for Christmas (man! why couldn't I have a granddad like that!). It came with manual steering but he wanted to put power steering in it, along with power brakes.
My donor truck ('75 F100) had power steering that I'm not going to use so I gave him the steering box and column along with the brake booster and some other stuff.
I was helping him install the steering and took advantage of the chance to see how the old style three spoke wheel would fit on the column from the '75.
Long story short, the three spoke wheel fits fine . The spline and shaft diameter are the same, which I already knew. The "biggie" though was whether the turn signals and horn would work. Answer, yes, both will work without any problems and only one modfication.
The horn blows and the turn signals cancel by themselves, like they're supposed to.
The only modification that has to be made is the stub that sticks out past the nut that holds the steering wheel on is too long, the horn button won't fit over it. A hack saw or die grinder fixes that easy enough.
Just figured I pass this along in case there's someone on the fence about installing the three spoke wheel in a dent'.

Didn't dents have their own three spoke wheel? I bought this truck and it had a factory appearing wheel. No horn button, but the wheel was in good shape.

Ford had the "sport" steering wheel that you could get on the dent' but I'm talking about the basic steering wheel.

FYI.... the early three-spoke wheel, through 70, was also used on 61-70 Falcons so search/surf the Falcon parts houses for a lower price.

I didn't have a bump at the time but found a seller offering them for $99... I checked back a few months ago after getting my 70 to find that the price is now $150. IIRC, that's a better price than from LMC, NPD, or DC.

3 arm wheel

hey Mike I thought I would pass my dealings with this wheel, the 67-72 nut that holds the wheel on is a diffrent thread than the 73-79 wheel, although like you said same spline,so do not try to use the nut from the early ford finer thread

You're welcome.

I need to correct myself.. 60-63 Falcons used the same steering wheel as 61-70 F-series trucks...

Here is where I found 'em for cheap and now they're $150: 1960-1963 STEERING WHEELS - BLACK ONLY - Steering - Falcon Enterprises

Somewhere in the very early 70s we discovered that the fancy rim-blow 3 spoke wheels from Mach 1s would fit the older bumpsides, I think if anyone could find a decent one of those now it would fit a dentside.
