I'm in the process of researching F-150s, and I really like the Lightning, but don't think I can afford it. I admire it though. Plus, I don't like the fact that there is only one row of seating. So, which truck should I look at if I want to convert it into a Fake Lightning? I know I should by the real thing, but let's just say I want a lower profile fast F-150. I'm thinking a 4x2 Flareside XLT. What year? How difficult is this type of conversion. I'm thinking I first want to do the SC, fuel managment, exhaust, and then body/suspension. Has anyone anything like this? Can you provide any links? I thried to conduct a search, but came up empty handed, it's hard to wait 40 sec for a new search when you strike out. Anyone, please help.

 

the lighting has 4 wheel disc brakes. I have a 99 F150 Flairside with 4 wheel disc brakes. i don't know why?? If any oneone can tell me that would be cool. Anyway, I would say the first step would be find a truck like mine. Check out my gallery. I have had it lowered, and added some nice rimms. People seem to like it. I still need to get the front and rear bumpers but that can wait. I am doing what you want to do. A fake lighting.

 

Im putting a 460 from a 79 lincoln in my F150. It should be able to smoke the lighting.

Up, that's what I want to do. What size engine do you have? How much have you put into mods? Are you going to do a SC?

 

You are better off just buying the lightning. You could get the Harley Davidson pickup and have a crewcab shortbox. it's still quick and built to haul *****. Good Luck

 

'99 F150 Flairside. (one of the best body styles IMO) You canot get the Falirside super crew in HD or Lighting. I have the 4.2 V6. I put straight pipes out the side much like the lighting. (sounds frickin MEAN) People ALWAYS think i got a V8 in it. Check out my gallery. i got some pics up but I need to put more recent ones. I have made a custom bed cover out of leather that is held down by chrome hood pins. (looks sweet. people think i had it done) I also got some cool steel mesh for the grill and made a custom grill cover. (looks allright. I wish it looked cleaner.) Nice pickup if you like that sort of thing. You can buy a supercharger for a 5.4 which should fit nicely in there. Since you are going totally custom you might as well make your own lightning and just buying the Lightning badges off of Ebay. You could get that badging and then buy the Custom badge from the 67-76 trucks off of http://www.calpickuptruck.com Good luck I'd like to see it when you get done.

I like your truck. You've a 6 huh, it seems many people are saying to get the 5.4 8 so I can easily drop a SC in, have you looked into a SC for your 6?

 

You know what, if you wanted a Lightning you should have bought a Lightning. Putting L badges on, even if you bolt an SC to your stock 5.4, does not make it a Lightning.

Nothing worse than a poser, you want the performance, style, and reputation of a Lightning... then pony up the dough and buy the real thing. I keep hearing stories of kids in thier Civics bragging about beating an "extended cab Lightning" or other crap, when in reality they were just racing some wannabe with a new bumper cover and Lightning badges on his truck.

Sorry to vent, obviously its your truck. But to me putting the badging on it is crossing the line....

I totally agree with you. Be a poser is so lame! making people think i have a lighting is NOT my goal. Putting L badges is on is not even in my style. Quite the oppistie, what I intend to do is get some badges that say 4.2 V6 in chrome I hope. After I drop an SC on my 4.2 and bolt up a 5spd, and get the LS rear end, I should be good to go on power. My goal is to prive that I can keep up with the lighting in a V6. It's not the size, it how you use it. I plan on modifying the truck to give a totally uniqe look. I By the way, my wife is planing on buying the 2004 Lighting for me when it comes out. SWEET. F150 (custom truck) 2004 Lighting (play truck). Once I get the 460 out of the lincoln, and I have the lighting, I will drop the 460 in the F150. But the 460 deal is a ways off still.

 

I still like the Lightning Custom badging idea.

If your gonna create your own badges, you should think of something better than "Lighting". I must say the name is cool, but whats with that bolt?? Looks kinda cartoony to me. Like something one would see on "DarkWing Duck" I don't know maybe some pople like it. I would rather have just the words "Lighting" without that funny little spark bolt underneath. Reminds of this movie "Flash Gordon". So if It was me I would try to come up with something even faster than lighting. I don't know what though. Maybe like "Photon" but thats kinda dumb too. Any ideas on names from anyone else? Or do you guys think the "Lighting" badge is cool?
