Best toons for a 6 pos tuner?

Vehicle has 4" turbo back, 6637 air filter, AIH delete, high flow turbo outlet, aramid IC boots, IH up-pipes, overboost code regulator. The current Superchips achieves 25psi of boost. Fuel pressure in the bowl is over 60psi - running lift pump, water seperator, Hutch mod. Have stock injectors, turbo & HPOP. I'm also running guages so I keep an eye on the EGT and trans temp.

The sort of tunes I'd like:

1) Quiet - speed limited to 100kmh (in case I let my son drive - but I'll have to hide the switch);
2) stockish with nice user friendly throttle response and max fuel economy;
3) Economy tow - towing up to 3.5 tonne;
4) Heavy tow - safe towing up to 4.5 tonne;
5) Mountain/'sport' driving - higher shift points, max low down torque
6) Max power - with only the faintest hint of coal (overtaking tune).

PHP 6 POS

G'day Simon,

Not sure what you have done about this?
But I went with a PHP FU2 6 Pos change on the fly chip.

I've had it in for a few years now and done a lot of towing and outback running with it and I've been very happy with it .
I went with the following tunes:

25Hp Extreme Heavy Duty Tow & 4WD
40Hp Heavy Duty Tow
65Hp Medium Duty tow
80Hp Light Duty Tow/Truck alone at GVM.
80Hp Daily Driver
100Hp Performance

The 80Hp DD is my main tune for normal driving around and has plenty of get up & go.
The 100Hp performance is a good aggressive tune and sits you back in the seat if you punch her.

It breaks down like this:

Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) Gross Combined Mass (GCM) That is the Truck Weight (Mass) + Trailer Weight (Mass) = GCWR or GCM.<O></O>
  • 25hp - Over 20,000lbs (9,071kg) GCWR (all terrain) <O</O
  • 40hp - 16,000 to 20,000lbs (7,260 to 9,071kg) GCWR (all terrain) <O</O
  • 65hp - 12,000 to 16,000lbs GCWR (5,450 to 7,260kg) (all terrain), 16,000 to 20,000lbs (7,260 to 9,071kg) GCWR (flat terrain) <O</O
  • 80hp - 8,000 to 12,000lbs(3,630 to 7,260kg) GCWR (all terrain), 12,000 to 16,000lbs (5,450 to 7,260kg)GCWR (flat terrain) <O</O
  • 100hp - 8,000 to 12,000lbs (3,630 to 7,260kg) GCWR (flat terrain) <O</O
  • 120hp - Not Recommended without a heavy duty gearbox & forged rods. <O</O
  • 140hp - Not Recommended without a heavy duty gearbox & forged rods. <O</O
Keep in mind that files designated as "Tow" are designed specifically for the needs of towing (shift strategies, pressures, lockup, fuel curves, injection timing) while "Performance" programs are handled quite a bit differently.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Reg.

Im realising that there is no such thing as "best tunes" in regards to tuners. I have had the DP and Im now running gearheads tunes. There are pro and cons on both. I really believe the "best" part of it will come in there after sales support. Because of our location you really need some one who will go that little bit further in regards to tweaking there tunes if you find a problem. So that limits you to the 6 position TS chip. I didnt like the noise from the engine and the touchy throttle on the DP and you have to send the chip back for any changes. Gearheads shift strategy (now this is my opinion) is all over the place. The truck has nice throttle response and goes like a scolded cat but it is very difficult to drive under Australian speed limits (specifically 80kph) with the way it changes gears. Im in discussions with him now but its dragging out longer than I like. Whom ever you go with just make it crystal clear that if you need changes that they are willing to do so and do it via email. I would speak to Clay as well cause he seems to be happy with the tunes on his new engine. I cant remember who it is tho.

PHP FU2

G'day Fellas,

Your dead right mate tunes are very much a personal choice made after your own research to match your very individual needs.

Your point about our Downunder distance disadvantage is not wasted as one of those important decisions to be made on what/who you go with.

I had no issues with PHP getting back to me when initially working out my tooons.
The FU2 package is for more heavily modified trucks and they won't sell it to you unless you've done at least the minimum mod to the slush box with a modified valve body (JW, BT etc).

It is a custom chip with the total of your mods (VB, intake, exhaust, Tyre size etc) and your purpose (towing, DD, racing, pulls etc) taken into account.

Any changes you would like to make is done by Bill and emailed to you to burn onto your chip as a burner comes as part of the package. This eliminates the agonising wait of some where you have to take your chip out and post it over to the US get new tunes burnt and wait for it to return. Meanwhile your back to Stock.

As you say what ever you go for, make sure it's for right for you and fit for trucks intended use.

Cheers,
Reg
