OK so I'm getting to put the engine and trans in my '59. First I'd like to get close to the right speedo gear/s in it before the big stab. 3.50 rear gears, 29.5" tire height. I know the driven speedo gear is 19 teeth and I'd like to avoid taking the back of the trans apart to count teeth on the drive gear. Is this a question for numbers dummy? Thanks

1959. Could be a cast iron DRIVEN gear, or a fibre DRIVEN gear riveted onto the end of a steel shaft.

Look closely at the original, it should an ID number stamped on it.

Once I know which DRIVEN gear is has, I can figure out the DRIVE gear.

ND, it is a cast iron gear. I have 2 transmissions to choose from and I'll get you some #'s today.

 

19T cast iron DRIVEN gear = Ford part number & stamped: 01T-17271-B / Verify this is the number stamped on your gear.

Could be B-19, but I'm guessing the 8 is the # of drive gear teeth?

 

01T, cannot be 71, will be 17 (271)-B

Could be just 01T-B.

If 8 was marked on DRIVEN gear, it would have nothing to do with DRIVE gear teeth, because what DRIVE/DRIVEN gears truck has, depends on trans type, rear axle ratio and original bias ply tire sizes.

1964 F250 2WD 4.56-1 4 M/T 6.50-16 tires: 01T-17285-B 6T DRIVE gear / 01T-17271-B 19T DRIVEN gear.

How many more examples would'ja like? There are pages of like examples for F100/350's, P350/500's, F500/600's and etc etc etc!

 

ND I appreciate your help. I went with the bottom #'s beng 8 for drive gear and 19 for driven gear. If that's the case, my 3.5-1 rear gears are perfect for 29.5" tires.
Who stocks gears for these? I've struck out, but it looks like my #'s are AFU.

 

There are dozens of 01T-B DRIVEN gears available NOS, I haven't figured out which DRIVE gear will be correct, but all I see are 6 & 7T steel gears.

There are 8T DRIVE gears, but they are nylon. I doubt your truck has a nylon gear unless the tranny's been swapped.

 

ND, sorry for the confusion. Both my trannies are for an F350. I pulled the other driven gear and it reads as follows:

The first one is a 19T gear and the one in front of me is a 22.
This is the main reason I don't want to pull the drive gear out. I don't have a socket, impact wrench or compressor that will break the big nut off to pull it out.
