Anybody out there running 20" wheels on your trucks? My 57 is going to be lower than stock, but not slammed. I am in the mock up phase but am not sure if a 20" would be too large for the wheel wells. They look really good on newer trucks. I'm planning on something like a torque thrust cast wheel. Anybody got any pics?

 

I assume an F100, correct? (I have 20s and 22.5s on some of my trucks, but they are F600s)

As long as your overall diameters and widths are not too far from stock you should be OK. I have seen F100s with 7.00 x 16 tires, and there was still quite a bit of room in the wheel wells, so diameter wise you may be OK. be careful on width. If you lower too much you might get interference with the fender lip when turning.

 

It is a short bed styleside 57 F100. I'm using an S-10 4x4 frame as my original frame is long gone and I wanted a lowered truck with all wheel drive capability. It looks like I have plenty of room for any tire I want clearance wise. I'm just wondering about the proportions of the big wheels in the old fenders.

I don't really like the huge wheel and small profile tire look. 20s with a 55 or 60 series tire look really good on modern trucks however. I have been searching the web but haven't seen any fridges with wheels that large. 18s might end up be a better choice. The guys at the local tire store are willing to help as much as they can but I would hate to order wheels that fit but just don't look proportional to the old truck. It's going to be critical to how this thing turns out!

 

Maybe you'd be best to get one of these. Expensive, but custom wheels and tires ain't cheap. This is inexpensive insurance

Thanks for the link. I was thinking I might want to buy a tool like that when I get far enough along to actually order the wheels and tires. The thing is though I don't know if the 20" rims will look out of proportion on a '57, even if the do fit. On newer trucks they look really good, but as on some early muscle cars really big rims might just not look right. I can photo shop them but there is nothing like seeing them on an actual truck.

We have one of the bigest car events in the country here, Hot August Nights, but seeing a frige is really rare. I haven't seen any running modern wheel and tire sizes. I just thought somebody here might be running them, as this is the only sight I've found that gives these trucks any attention. (Nice to see finally)!

 

That's the hard part. There used to be sites on the interwebz that allowed you to plug in your vehicle, pick your wheels and get a closer idea, but prolly about the same as photo shopping. I'm more of a traditional guy. To me, putting modern wheels on an old truck is kinda like putting a mink coat on a 40 buck street ho'.
