I have just acquired an 85 F 250 with a 460 and a T19 trans (it's toast and I am building a C6 for it as I post this) and am wondering what carb do you use to get the best mileage for freeway driving and what mileage (stock and with a new carb) could I expect?
The stock carb might need to be replaced (going to attempt a rebuild first unless I find a reasonable alternative).
I have an edelbrock performer 460 I also acquired a long time ago in the garage so that is available as well.
I dont know if it is the EGR model or not but the number cast under the manifold is 2166
I am fixing this one (a totally abused nonrunner) up and am now faced with most likely moving to Chicago in a month or two, and will most likely have to drive it there towing my Hyundai GT with it so if the mileage increase is enough, it might almost (if not fully) pay for itself to get a less thirsty carb for the trip.
Any info would be appreciated.

I have a 4160 Holley, 600 CFM and a 1411 Edelbrock, 750 CFM that I run on my 460.

They both will run about 11 mpg all the time with combined city and highway driving. The Edelbrock has gotten the best of the 2 on straight highway driving @ a smidge over 13 mpg.

The 2166 is a non- EGR, Performer intake.

I assume your truck is a two wheel drive? If so, and your gears are not too steep. you may do a little better.

But hey, it is a big motor.

 

I'll see what those carbs are going for around here (Bay area CA).
I guess I'll have to wait until I smog it before I install that intake.
BTW I have the 4:10 diff gearing and it is a two wheel drive, and also silver and black as well.
Do you know what the expected mileage range would be for these stock?
