Need Torx Bolt Size - E-150 Seat Removal

Rather than get a huge expensive Torx bolt set, does anyone know the sizes of the Torx fittings I need to remove the seat belts and the floor brackets in the E-150 Vans?

I have done a search and I cannot locate this information, I also looked in my manual and it does not list the size.

Your help will be appreciated!!

Sincerely,
Scott

IIRC its a t50

but you can get a pretty decent set from harbor freight for a pretty fair price, somewhere around 15 bucks IIRC

The seatbelts are a different size, I removed the plates from the floor of my 99 E350, then the belts on the walls due to only needing a bench over the axle in my 15 passenger, the middle is open to roll around in my wheelchair, I put a sofa/bed from a conversion in it.

As mentioned, t50 is correct size for the seat brackets. However, I haven't figured out a way to remove the stubborn ones in my 2008 E-350. Either the tool breaks or the bolt head will strip out. I'm thinking of welding a large bolt head to them, but that's a last resort. Anyone have a good idea for these?

jmh, i find that a bit surprising that you're having that much trouble with them on a van so new. you might buy a better quality torx bit made for use with an impact wrench, those are tough as can be.
for those that are already stripped, i would hate welding them, as you're likely to scorch some interior pieces nearby, which of course is a huge fire hazard and a hazard with toxic smoke - burning carpet and more. similar hazards apply trying to grind off the head.
if the heads are really that stripped, you might try pounding in a hex or torx bit a bit larger than should fit and wrenching on that. if that doesn't get you anywhere, at least it opens up enough space for a drill bit to start going in.

They extend through the floor, rusting on the other side makes it difficult to extract them, along with you not getting the bit fully in it, dirt in the heads, I use an awl and shopvac to clean them out, then use a hammer to insure the bit fully goes into the bolt. I did strip a bit or two, the quality tools don't do this, you get what you pay for, and it's difficult to find places selling good/quality tools, parts stores ain't it either.

Go to Snap-On or cornwall or any really good tool supplier and get a T50 IMPACT torx and use an impact wrench. They will come right out.

All great info here! Thank you! So I have the T50, but what is the other size that holds the seat belt onto the bottom of the seat; it is SMALLER.

I'm lucky because Harbor Freight is not more than 20 minutes from my house, so as soon as I get the other size I will make a trip. It would be nice if I could just buy the bits individually and not have to invest in a set. I will definitely see about getting the best quality IMPACT style too.

Cool, I'm not in a huge hurry, so if somebody has access to some documentation or where I could find it online please let me know! I don't want to go shopping unprepared.

Thanks again!

Actually, this is only 9.99 and has a bunch including 45 and 50. The size should be in there. I'm just worried about whether these will hold up:

Sweet! Well, funds are a bit low at the moment, but I hate to snap one of those damn cheap ones. When I'm down there I'll ask the guy what he recommends and ask what their return policy is / guarantees, etc.

I'll do it in the damn parking lot and if they snap I'll be back in pretty quickly! LOL. I just want to take a bench seat out! Hopefully this isn't a huge PITA.

Thanks for your advice!!

Scott

PS, one more thing, I don't have an impact wrench; I was planning on using my heavy duty 3/4" socket wrench. Forgive my ignorance, but could I use the impact wrench with my socket?

the HFT hand tool warranty is just like the craftsman warranty. if you break it, bring it back and leave with a new one for free. makes it all worth it - i hate paying for tools i can't use, and the warranty makes it all good
