I am contemplating on completely rewirring my f100 but I would really like to keep the factory style wirring and not some generic aftermarket kit. I noticed where the harness plugs together at the firewall on the drivers side near the master cylinder its a rectangular plug. I am running all actual working gauges(not dummy or idiot lights) from a bigger f-series truck of the same year with air pressure gauge and a tach. I'm not sure if I want to go with an alternator or keep the generator? Who makes new harnesses for this year?

 

Anyone know about the 60?

 

I recall this being discussed but not the names of the vendor. I do remember that you will have to bring you wallet though! If you are not using original guages and perhaps not generator, why would you want an original harness?

 

Did a little looking around for you and came up with this seller on ebay that list a harness for a '59 and a '61 for around $400. From what I recall, that is a good price.! I would think if you contacted them they could do you a '60! FORD PICKUP 1932-UP items in truck harness store on eBay!

 

After an exhausting in depth search of this forum using the terms "1960 wiring harness".
OK it took two minutes. But it was easy, almost anyone could do it!

Well they would need my old harness also if I am not running idiot lights and possibly not a generator...then that harness would be useless?

 

Also if I were to go with a universal aftermarket harness what would I have to do with the rectangular hols from the old harness that plugs into the firewall?

 

Yea thats the problem with these old trucks. When you move away from stock you have decisions to make. What to do what to do?

Any ideas what a universal harness would look like? Would it be home run wires from the fuse box to the devices or would there be some connector plugs in between. If it comes thru the firewall in a round bundle, just cut out two rectangular pieces of thick rubber a little larger than the orininal harness port and route the new harness thru the rubber blanks with a hole cut to except them. The rubber can be either cut to friction fit into the hole or if made larger enough, glued or screwed to the firewall. I have never done this as I used three original harnesses to restore my existing but with a little creativity you can come up with something you like. Sometimes when you hear ideas that sound dumb it makes you think of what you really want to do by thinking about what is wrong with someone elses idea!

 

Congrats on working on a 60 ford. I have dealt with Alloy metal products out of New York for stock complete wiring harnesses. They were made from NOS harnesses and or ford blueprints. New fuse box is included. He has made up some additional harnesses when I ordered a complete one last year. Complete harnesses including all wiring, dash, engine, body, signals, lights, heater, were around $800. I did see NPD offered 60 year for a while but is now out of stock again. Adding up all indivicual pieces was over $800. I have put in two new complete harnesses in both my 60 trucks and they fit perfectly. Let us know what you come up with. Good luck!!

 

I've used YnZ to reproduce my 1960 harnesses with nothing but outstanding results. Reproduction of the harness will take a few weeks, as YnZ assembles the harness then sends it to another local shop to mold on the correct plug ends. In return, you will receive a harness of exact appearance to that of your original. For your situation, simply you can work with YnZ to add or delete any wires to your reproduction harness for your add-on accessories. Unfortunately, any changes you make to the harnesses feeding into the firewall may warrant alteration of your dash harness.

 

This relates to my project '59. I got it without any wiring at all. I saw something on original wiring from Sac Vintage Ford (I think?) I'm def going with a later ford alternator so I'm guessing modding will be needed. OP, nice find getting full gauges from a bigger truck! I'm jealous.

At $800 I think I'll go with an aftermarket harness and figure out what to do about the firewall connection at that time. I'll prolly weld the existing hole shut and make a new one. Aftermarket harnesses are around $300
