Would love to know what People are towing! We are looking for a Toy Hauler RV that will fit within the towing specs of our 2011. You would think it would be easy but either the ones we like are OUTRAGOUSLY Priced or Look like a glorified utility trailer. I have seen someone pulling what looked to be a 30ft Travel Trailer, Which was WAY Beyond the Capabilities of the explorer, But the guy said he was doing fine with it and had came up to Indiana from Nashville,TN.

I don't what you're gonna be towing with the Explorer. I'm leery about towing our 2 place snowmobile trailer with ours. I believe towing capacity is 5k lbs?

Yep 5k is towing capacity, you can still tow quite a bit at 5K, a snow mobile is nothing, what does your trailer and snow mobile weight?

Wife owns a 2012 Explorer Limited 4x4 (Ginger Ale Metallic) with the 3.5L and we tow a 6x10 Enclosed Trailer. It only weights about 3000 lbs, but the Explorer tows it GREAT!

It's a steel trailer, 7x16
Its close to 5k with sleds, gear, gas, and lots of beer
I just hooked up the trailer brake controller to it and I may take it for a ride this weekend to see how she handles.

I finally had a chance to tow with the Explorer this weekend. Overall I was impressed, the truck never felt like it was struggling to start or stop. It did seem to get "squirmy" at times above 65mph, although not a constant thing. I'd say trailer weighed in @4k or so.

I was so pumped when I read the 3.5L Ecoboost was coming in the Explorer, then I saw the 5K tow rating. Come on Ford, my cousins 2008 Explorer 4.6L with 292 hp has a Tow rating of 7310lbs and pulls his 24' haulmark no problem. Guess I have to keep waiting for an Ecoboost Expedition for the wife's next daily driver.

Anyone want to throw a 7500lb trailer on theirs and let me know how it goes? Lol

It's built on a Taurus platform, no way in hell I'd throw anymore than 5k behind the Explorer. The one thing I did notice was the heat/smell coming from the exhaust. Seemed a bit excessive to me, we were considering using it on our first trip up north(6hr ride). It's a huge upgrade in comfort over my F350, I'm not sure though.

Thanks for the pic, and write up, looks like it is carrying the weight pretty well. Dont look like you have any weight distribution, did you have any sway control hooked up?

Thanks

Good point, I did not have any anti-sway hooked up at all. I was more curious in how it would do with the weight, and it did that well
