pure synthetic oil

synthetic oils are made for peple that are putting 5000 miles a month on a vehicle and dont want to change the oil that often. If you are putting 1000 - 1500 a month, i think your still better off to change the oil every 5000 miles or 2-3 times per year. If you drive less than that, i would change the oil every year. The bad thing is to leave the oil in for LONG periods of time.

In my wife's 2008, I just use the Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20 oil and a quality filter every 5000. About 60% highway miles and with 80K on it now the oil still comes out just a light brown color. I am sure it could go longer, but every 5K is easy to remeber and keep track of. Plus doing oil change myself it is relatively low cost ($20 range).
Royal Purple is excellent oil. I think overkill for an Edge. If you really want to understand the oil change interval, you need to do used oil analysis and it will let you know when the oil is due for change.

You might try a synthetic blend for a few oil changes before pure synthetic?

I always flip out when I see this question. If you change your oil every 5k miles it should be ok to switch. Then the other side says if it has build up no, it will screw your engine up. Which is crap science, if its dirty clean the engine out with a higher detergent oil, which all major brands syn use. this will clean the engine out. Just use a damn good filter and change it an extra few times tell the build up is gone.
If the engine has big *** chunks of sludge. No matter what the hell you do, the engine will fail if it blocks enough oil returns to start with. If you want to know if your engine is clean pull a valve cover and you will know.

I use Mobil 1 in all of my vehicles. On my MKT because of low mileage. My company is about six minutes from the house and most of my daily business is in that same range.
My company truck has 125,000 miles. Now it only drives about 5,000 miles a years so most of the time it backs out of the shop in the morning a pulls into the shop at night. So it gets the Mobil 1.

This is why cars such as all 97+ Corvettes, all AMG, Porsche etc cars come with Mobil1 from the factory.

If you live in an area where the temp never goes below say 15 degrees F. you will probably see near 0 wear for 100,000 miles with high grades of synthetic motor oils changed properly with the best filters. Cheap plastic parts breaking is another story. They will probably still wear and break.

There is no such thing as a 1994 Focus. The Focus was introduced in 1998 in Europe and in '00 in the US. So good luck with putting any kind of oil in your '94 Focus.
