What plates should i get in Missouri???
I have a 2000 f250 v10, i have 6000 lbs plates on my truck now due to transfering the plates from my half ton chevy. Well its time to renew and i know that i need to get bigger plates. The question is what size 12 or 18000 lbs? I dont pull a whole lot but when i do it is usually 6 pwcs at a time which are about 1000lbs each.. only do this maybe once a year.. what is the upside to getting 18000 vs 12000 is missouri and what is the difference between local and beyond local??? Any advice or anyone know the difference???

Thanks Crazy. As for the weight question, that's really on you. Will you be overweight with a 12k tag while hauling, probably so. Will you get caught, maybe not. 18k plates cost more than 12k, but that's about the only difference other than have one plate with 18k and 2 with 12k. I wouldn't be surprised if you were already really close to being over weight with a 6k tag now, empty!
As for the local/beyond local, are you going to be driving it further than 50 miles from the registration address? If yes, get beyond local. You can get a ticket if you're out of range with a local tag. Will you get pulled over for having a local tag, most likely not, but once again, it's your call if you want to skirt the law to save some $$.
Is a farm tag an option? Makes them a lot cheaper, but you are supposed to keep it within 50 miles of the farm location unless you're 'using it for farm business'. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I had 12k farm tags on my j20 because it's fuel range was less than 50 miles!
Oh, and welcome to the MO chapter. Feel free to jump onto the monthly BS thread and sling some bull. Quite a group of characters here in the MO chapter.

The higher the allowed weight to tow the more the tag is, playing it safe is cheaper in the long run than a ticket and better on the drivers licence c/d/l record.
The "F" or farm sticker is always cheaper I run them on all my rigs, and have never had any hassle with being outside my 50 mile radious. Since I am usually going to look at a Ford, truck or tractor they never ask.
Cy is right call the DMV and ask the ?, then call a different one and see what answer you get. A flat bed make vehicle insurance cheaper too FYI.
Welcome to FTE too.

One thing to look at with the 18k plates is they are only good for 1 years versus 2 for 12k, and compounded quarterly, so for this year you would pay for 2 quarters and have to renew again in december, not sure on the inspection issue as to whether you have to get another one done this year, my local DMV couldn't answer that one when I got my plates in june, should have waited another week, just didn't know at that point. I went with 18k plates because twice a year I pull a 9000lb trailer and didn't want any issues, the guy who usually pulls it only runs bl12 plates on his F350. But I like to play it a bit safer, I have a tendency to attract extra attention from the police.
