302 v8 with C4 trans upgrade to AOD trans
Can anyone tell me if a Ford AOD trans is a direct fit replacement for the C4 trans I have on my 1974 302 v8. I want to upgrade my trans for better fuel economy and not get to technical with the swap. My research point to yes, it is a compatible, but I would like to bounce the question around before I comit to the endeavor.

yes they are Interchangeable do you know if you have a 157 tooth flywheel or 164? cause you are gonna need a 164 and backing plate for the aod you will also need a tv cable for a carb lokar makes them then you will need the throttle adapter to time it right for the adjustment and it has to be right on or bye bye transmission but yes it will interchange

do a google search as there is ton of info out there on this swap. it is a very popular swap and has been done numerous times.
one thing to keep in mind is that Ford changed the balance on the 302 in i think 82 from 28 oz to 50 oz imbalance, so you cannot use the flexplate from the AOD equipped car on your earlier engine. would cause a huge vibration. there are aftermarket flexplates to do the adaptation or you can use a 351W flexplate that had the correct teeth.
very popular swap, just a few things you have to keep in mind and set up properly and correctly (namely the tv cable) for it to work properly. but do a google search, lots of info out ther on the web.
