I have a 1965 ford f100 and i recently got some spindles from a 1978 ford f150 with disc brakes. I was wondering which kingpins to use on the truck, has anyone done this conversion?

 

If they were the same diameter, you'd have to use the 65 kingpins. They have the anchor bolt in a different location than the 78. That's only if they're the same diameter. If not, you may be out of luck.

 

Since you're going to be installing the 1978 disc brakes & spindles, use the kingpins for them: D5TZ-3111-A = 1975 F100/150 2WD from serial number W40,001 / 1976/79 F100/150 2WD.

Has anyone done this conversion? 100's of member have! There are a gazillion articles inre to this swap here on FTE, but...

You will need more parts than just the spindles, king pins and disc brakes.

1965 kingpins have the spindle pin locking bolt in a different location. You're not using these parts, so don't worry about it.

If you have 65 beams you need to use the 65 Pins. and they are the same diameter. If you use the later pins they are to far one way as dictated by the king bolt bore in the 65 axle end.

65 is the only year that need the specific pin. all others can use later pins.

Will you be having the pins fitted by using bronze bushings or using nylon?

I just tried the 65 kingpins and they are the ones that will work. I am getting brass bushings reamed to fit the kingpins.

 

The 65 kingpins are roughly 1/8 inch shorter, however it shouldnt make a difference bcz thats only 1/16 inch on each side. The diameters are the same though
