I am new to the forum. I just bought my 57 Ford F100 shortbox about a month ago. It has a 288 small block in it and runs great. I replaced a few things inside the cab, fixed the drum brakes (brake line was leaking), fixed the gas leak in the line to the tank, and put new tail lights on it (the old ones were not original and did not work).

After installing the new tail lights, I tried to see if my wiring was correct. The wiring on the back of the truck is a mess. But.. running lights worked, brake lights worked... for 5 seconds.... no signals. Then played with the wiring and the right brake light worked for a second and then nothing. Blew a fuse. The front lights and front signals work.

I looked under the steering column at the fuses and it is a MESS. There are old wires in there that aren't connected to anything, exposed wires, etc. Not sure if I should try to get a new fuse and try the lights again, or just take the truck in somewhere and have someone strip out the old wiring and put in a new harness.

Thoughts/ Suggestions. Picture of my truck below. I love my new purchase and want to get this thing on the road. Like I said, she runs great, but I need working tail lights before I can go too far.

Welcome to FTE! Glad you have a fun truck. There will always be something to do on it. I would reccomend you getting a shop manual for it as it will answer a lot of questions. On you tail light issues, it is hard to say what the trouble is unless you ask specific questions.
