6.9 idi Glow Plugs

Evening all. I had a thread a couple of months back about my ute (pick-up) not starting. Finally got onto it, and have tried all sorts. Couldn't get any glow plugs to light up with the test-light test.

What may cause all of them to burn out/stop working at once??

I pulled one out on the head tonight. AC8G USA it has stamped on it. So google tells me it is an AC delco one.
It has a 8mm wide spade head. Tried the battery jumper cables test too, didnt even warm up.

Now....... I can try and source AC product here in New Zealand, but haven't seen/heard of Beru. So am asking the question... Whats the ford part number so i can try and price them out of Ford New Zealand??
Should i risk the AC's again? We can get NGK's, and Champions as a brand here.

I have been given one glow plug to try from a guy who ran a banks turbo 7.3 - Branded HKT, stamped GUS565CH 11v 018, and only has a 6mm spade on top.

What to do???

All help and input appreciated!!!

For the 86 and earlier 6.9, the Motorcraft/ Beru plugs you need are ZD1A. The 87 model year takes the ZD9 plug. Any of the ones you listed will fit and work for a while, but for how long is the question. Some have reported burn outs after just one start. As for all burning out at once, the controler may have went bad in the on position, as has been reported.
Edit--You can see the Ford # on the bag http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-4-Mot...2b7f76&vxp=mtr The ZD9 http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTORCRAFT-Z...119d58&vxp=mtr

All I can say for the old ZD1's is good luck finding 'em in New Zealand! I can't find some anywhere here in Canada or the states! Some Ford dealers, and even IH dealers have told me they can still be ordered, special order that is, at the tune of 31$ a piece.....

Some other places don't even show the part number for 'em anymore, some places say theres a new part number, and some places say they have been discontinued and can't be had anymore.

You could use ZD-9 GPs except you'd have to change the connectors. The ZD-9 is a bullet connector. You can use the round crimp terminals. They are slightly smaller than the OEM ones but will expand to fit. RockAuto Parts Catalog $9.53 us plus shipping.

^^^^ Thanks a bunch for the link!!! I knew rockauto had glow plugs, but didn't know it was the motorcraft ones!

How did you find these though? I just went to look for 'em my self, I entered in 1985 Ford E350 Diesel, - Ignition parts - Glow plugs, and they show 'em all except the motorcraft ones?

There's a search window in the upper right hand corner of the display where you type in your ZD-1. I just did and Rockauto doesn't show the ZD-1 that's why I mentioned that you could use the ZD-9 GPs withthe termination change.

PS:
I recommend bench testing each GP before installing them. I use my battery charger to power them up until they get red hot. You can use jumper cables and your battery if you don't have a 10 amp charger.

glow plug controller sealant

Hi Folks, what is the best sealant to use on the threads of the GP control switch? I am tempted to use a typical plumbing thread sealant but wanted some input first.
Thanks

the bullet plug is a 6v and dont use against a 12v controller that is used on a 6.9. AC has some self regulating plugs like the 60g for 12v, they are shorter though. not for sure if that would be an issue an need seat cut back. that what i am running

Hi Flash- I do not know how long the NGK glow plugs last or how well they work in the FORD, but all there other products are very high on my list of acceptability.
