it shakes only a bit on the highway, but under braking it gets pretty bad,

work done last year:
all new ball joints ,complete new hubs,rotors, brakes, all steering links,and i just had the tires rebalanced thinking that might be it no help,also had the alingment checked to
any input would be great

Sounds like the rotors got hot. May need to replace them. Just my .02

 

maybe the rotors are going bad ,i was wrong the brakes and rotors are 4years old, i checked the brake pads they look great

on the highway, is the steering wheel shaking or are the seats shaking? thats the difference if its the front or rear. same thing when you hit the brakes, is the steering wheel or brake pedal shaking?

 

well the steering wheel doesnt shake,but the pass. side seat does shake,putting on the brakes the whole front end shakes, highway speed and low speed, i cant really feel it in the brake pedal

 

what I would do is, new front pads and rotors, balance and rotate the tires. you could just try rotating the tires first to see if that changes anything.

 

did the tires and balance last week no change , so it looks like i'll be buying new pads and rotors today

 

Mine shook horribly under braking only. The caliper pins were siezed up. New rotors, caliper brackets, and pads did the job. No shaking whatsoever!

 

Have you looked at the steering stabilizer? The infamous "death wobble" ... maybe ... I only say this since you have replaced everything and the shaking is under braking and driving.

Something to look at if you have not replace it?

 

+1 on the steering stabilizer. I was amazed how much that helped.

I need to tear into mine as well, I've developed some wobble when braking and I just replaced everything last fall.

 

If you come to a slow slow speed with brakes applied on a down hill can you hear/feel the change in speed in the vibration...aka the slower you go the slower the vibration is...then its most likely rotors (well im betting its rotors from the description)


If you feel it in the pedal not the steering wheel most likely rotors....very easy to overheat rotors on a truck this size, when i bought mine it needed rotors badly...but when i replaced them it was all brand new brake stuff (still replaced it all and kept the pads as spares)
All it takes to warp rotors is getting them hot while stopping for a light and then sitting at the light with the brake on 1 time 1 stop....race cars are the same and is why when you get off track you never put on your parking brake always just let her sit.

if the steering wheel is shacking most likely have something unbalanced...though if the rotors get really bad you can feel it in the steering wheel.

Replaced my stabilzer over the weekend, very easy job and the replacment part is VERY cheap.
