Busted for Running Antique Tags??
Tennessee law is specific that a vehicle running antique tags must have original type chassis and engine. Does anyone else see a lot of highly modified vehicles running antique tags? Yeah, I realize that most cops don't know but many of these things are obvious.
I've heard of only one person being busted and that was several years back. The person got stopped for doing a burnout in a hotrod Chebby PU so he got a ticket for illegal use of the antique tag.
Comments, anyone?

I've got a TN antique tag on my car, but I know TN changed the law in 2009. Now anyone wanting to register a vehicle as antique has to have the vehicle inspected by a law enforcement officer. I've had my tag since 07 and never had a problem.
But I think writing a ticket is somewhat subjective to each officer's discretion. I've talked to a couple of officer's who don't really know how the antique tag law works, nor did they really seem to care. IMHO they have more important things to worry about than if an antique car's motor is the same year as the car.
To answer your question I don't see a lot of highly modified vehicles with antique tags in my area. But I do see a bunch of vehicles which appear to be being operated as daily transportation M-F, and are sporting antique tags.

We (local crusiers & I) run Antique tags on several vehicle; not as a primarily means of transportation; Never hear of you must be running oem motors.
The past process was to have a law enforcement officer verified your vin; but our local tag & reg's place policy is base off of 25 years or old to meet the requirements for Antique tags.

Yea; they use to preach mileage and only use for parades and cruises etc. But to be honest; the only ones around here that hot rod & cut up are the ones drawing attention from the police. I even had a friend who drove his 77 F250 daily with antique tags it got t-bone and the cop only copy down the basic info as if any normal accident would need. I just wish you could transfer the tags from one vehicle to another.

After reading the info; I beleive I can't use a Antique tag on another vehicle.
I agree with ya Mark;
Not to change the subject; (opening a can of worms) but I beleive bicyclist that ride on the roads (bike paths) should have to paid a wheel tax; license fee's and wear proper safety gear and visiblity attire.
