2013 Explorer Sport w/ 3.5L EcoBoost

Any thoughts on the new 2013 Sport offering? The base 400A package is essentially an XLT 202A w/ the larger 3.5L EcoBoost and has 4WD standard.

We are days away from making a decision and I'm really liking what I see - well, except for the pending loan amount....

Ford's comparison website lists total tow at 5,000# for the EcoBoost and has the same 5,000# listed for the less powerful 3.5L FWD option.

I was hoping for numbers a bit closer to the F150 EcoBoost.

Unless you really like the sport pkg and want a hot rod, I don't see any gain paying for the 3.5 ecoboost in this vehicle. It will never have the capabilities the f150 has, it is built on the Taurus platform. I am awaiting delivery of one myself, XLT 3.5 v6, Kodiak Brown with 201A pkg. (Cant stand leather)

XLT 3.5 4WD 202A is our fallback. As for leather, well, it's the *wife's* mobile and she has been waiting for 10 years for a new vehicle. I'm more than happy with my cloth interior '01 F250 crew!

Price bump from XLT 3.5 4WD 202A to a Sport 3.5 Eco 4WD (202A equiv package 400A) is only about $2k at MSRP. We're going D plan so I'm trying to decide if the net ~$1,200 is worth it for the Sport.

According to Ford's website, both the 3.5 and 3.5 Ecoboost are both rated at 5k # max tow.

Still trying to digest the ~$40k + price tag after TTL. That's a lot of BBQ....

We have both a 2011 Explorer XLT w/3.5 and a 2011 F150 FX4 EcoBoost.

I would suggest the EcoBoost in the Explorer. While the NA 3.5 has more umph than the 3.0 Ford 500 it replaced, there seems to be a large gap between gears that the turbos would make up for.

Just my 2 cents...

Also to note, the EcoBoost kills the V10 F250 I had in power and MPGs.

Ended up finding a leased '09 Edge with minimal miles that was a bit underpriced for the options included. Perhaps we'll get into a Sport Explorer used in ~3 years.

I have a 2012 with the NA 3.5L and have no complaints about the responsivness of the engine at all. In 2012 they only offered the 4cyl Ecoboost which did not impress. I did not mind that because I really could not justify the cost of the Ecoboost in my mind anyway. Gas mileage is rated at 18/25. I have never hit 25 on the highway but do an average of 20 with mostly around town driving.
It amazes me how sure footed it is in a tight corner. There is almost no lean and the standard Michelins are really sticky.
No matter which engine you go with I hope you enjoy driving it as much as I do mine.

Thanks, I think it really came down to the package. She drove a limited and loved it, but once she saw a pic of the sport, she changed her mind and decided to wait on that. Really had nothing to do on the Ecoboost for her.
