Front end knocks when truck rocked.

Please Help!

I have a 2005 F150 FX4 w/the 5.4 motor. I have been noticing a knocking noise when i go over bumps but can't figure it out. The same noise occurs when I grab the top of the front right or left wheel and push in and out. The truck will rock back and forth and this re-creates the noise. For some reason the noise sounds like it is coming from the engine bay area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can also get a video of it if you would like.

Thanks in advance!

Morgan

It sounds like your front swaybar links are worn out. This happened on my old 2004 at 82,000 miles. I had them replaced and the noise went away.

I'm not sure what my mechanic did to check them. Maybe someone else will chime in that has more knowledge about it than me. I do remember that the swaybar links were very cheap. Good luck!

You should be able to tell just by visually checking the links, maybe a slight tug on then if necessary

I checked them and there was no play in the lins.. I felt no play in any suspension parts. Like I said before it sounds almost like the sound is coming through the fender wells. I can push up and down on the suspension and no knows. I only get the knock when I am rocking the truck from left to right via the wheels.

A few people have reported broken coil springs on the front. The breaks were near the bottom of the coil where they flatten out into the spring seats.

checked the coils and they are fine. I also noticed if i have my wheels turned I can rock the truck with no noise. The noise only occurs if the wheels are straight..... This is driving me crazy. Nobody can seem to figure out where the noise is coming from.. :-(

Here is a video of the noise. It is actually making two different types of noises now. One has a deeper sound and the other has a more metalic sound.

Mine only made one noise when I had the problem. It also took a few months and more than one mechanic to find the problem.

Noise

I don't know your cause but I do have a suggestion. If you can create the noise sitting still, have someone do the movements while you're underneath. You may be able to track it down that way.

Good luck
