Just got my first Unibody.. Now what?
Howdy all,
I just received my first unibody ('62) from my dad who found it for 200 bucks with title! He threw a new battery on her along with some basic maintenance and the 292 started right up after sitting for I don't know how long.
Anyways, I have it now and I've been doing a little research. I realize I'm gonna have to modify the frame and stuff to lower it. I don't want it to "scrape" on the ground but I want it pretty low! also, I want to put a fully built 7.3 powerstroke in it
I do intend to make this a project and I don't need it to be done overnight. But, I'm not looking to do a completely custom frame with airbags and all that stuff because I want to have this to be something I can use as a daily driver and not throw my life savings into.
Soooo, can someone start leading me into the right direction with some ideas? Right now I'm kind of mixed up haha.

Thank you! Yes I definitely would like some strength in there. As far as what suspension should be welded in and what suspension I should get, are there any technical documents around? Also, what would you do about the back half of the truck to lower it??
Should I be looking to use a crown vic, etc. for a complete frame swap? Would that end up making things easier? Since that's about the ride height I'm looking for. (I'm not worried about how much bed space I have.)

The Power Stroke is a really tall engine. You will need to build a new frame or stub to handle the weight of it.
The Crossmember on a Vic or even Aftermarket requires a short pan height.
As to re framing it, ask your DMV if it is legal to do this type of swap. The 61 to 66 F series VIN is dictated by the frame. Not the body. The warranty tag on your glove box door is not a VIN.
Plan ahead as to your goals and what you want the truck to do. Access your skill level and ascertain if you can even preform the work. If not be prepared to get expensive having a shop do it.
