A guy is offered to trade me a 1979 ford f100 4x4 short bed. It has 17k miles on a rebuilt 351m with a mild cam, intake and 650 cfm carb, headers and dual pipes. Its got the bulldog 4spd trans. 4.10 gears. I think 31 or 33 inch A/T tires. What kinda fuel economy should i expect driving mostly around town and country roads?

 

If properly tuned and you're easy on the skinny pedal you might muster low to mid teens, something in the 12-15mpg range.

 

That doesnt sound too bad. Right now with my 94 4x4 5.0 with the cap and me short shifting im getting 14mpg.

 

These old rigs aren't necessarily that horrible in the mpg department, it's just the new reality of $4.00 a gallon gas that puts a strain on the wallet.

 

I know what you mean. Mom keeps nagging sayin i should buy some little toyota car or equivilant. I just cant bring myself to buy a cheap jap plastic car over these heavy metal usa made trucks. Plus i dont feel like taking yoga to climb in my vehicle

Down here it goes from $3.21-$3.44/gal in some places cheaper....it's cause of the election...
