I friend told me this morning, that Ford and Cummins were marrying up.
Dodge would have to use something else.
Personally, I find this hard to believe, but has anyone else heard of this?
Didn't Ford own a hunk of Cummins once?

 

Not sure whats all entale, but the f650/750 have, 7.3, cummins and CAT motors.

 

Last I heard,
Ford was a major share holder at one time but has since sold most of their stock (about 3-5 years ago...). They still have a minor stake in the Cummins brand I believe....

According to our local fleet sales rep, the only diesel engine available in the entire Ford line is the 6.7 liter. For the light and med duty trucks (F250-550), it's the Ford 6.7 Powerstroke. For the heavy duty (F650-750) it's the Cummins. However, the Cummins 6.7 is available in 5 different power levels.

 

Ford just spent $600,000,000 developing their own in house diesel engine (the 6.7). I am doubtful there is any "marriage" pending with any other manufacturer.

Ford was never a major stakeholder in Cummins although they once owned about 3% of Cummins publicly traded stock, which they divested entirely of in 1997.

 

This rumor has been going around the 'net for at least 15 years. It is still completely false.

 

You can get a F650/750 with a cat C7 200hp

 

I stand corrected the last cat was a 09 C7 300hp.

It now a cummins are a 6.8 v10

Starting with the 2010 model year, only one diesel option was available due to Caterpillar's current absence in the OTR market. The 6.7 L Cummins B Series engine(ISB) I-6 diesel comes with 8 standard and optional ratings, and two vocational ratings.[2] Ford has announced that for the 2012 model year there will be gasoline and compressed natural gas options available for the F-650. The 6.8 L Ford Modular engine V-10 produces 362*hp and 457*ft·lbs of torque and will be mated to Fords new 6R140 6-speed automatic transmission.[3]

 

Is that special order? Our brochure only shows the Cummins ISB or V10 as options. Transmission choices are Automatic (Allison) or manual (Fuller).

The F-53 and F-59 chassis look like gas engines only...

My buddies dad has a 08 F650 dump truck with a Cat and that thing will pull anything that's put in it or behind it

The Cat engines are quite impressive. We have an FL-60 stake bed truck with a Cat 7.2 and it's a brute. We use it to pull our larger trucks when they get stuck in landscaping and mud at jobsites etc. It's one of my favorite trucks in the fleet.

 

I own a lawn and landscaping company. I sunk my truck two weeks ago with a 25' gooseneck and a bobcat T190 with a spade and two pallets off grass and had to get a peterbilt to pull me out. Not a fun day.

 

Back to topic I've heard ford owned a few shares but I can not confirm this but I have emailed Ford this question and the answer was that cummins was an engine supplier for Ford

They have come out with a Vocational Truck with the "CAT" badge, but it is a Navistar, with a Navistar engine built for Cat.
The Auto transmission is a Cat Built.
This is the last I heard. I tend to agree with Klux though.
