56 f600

HI,it's been a long while since I've posted.
I want to get 56 f600 and put a ldt465 mulitfuel engine out
of a Deuce and a half in it.
Does anyone think (know) if the engine will fit??
Thanks for any and all response's.

I'm not sure on the size of the ldt465 as it's new to me, but in comparison a 6BT Cummins is a tight fit height and length wise, but has been done. The ldt465 seems to weigh about a whole lot at ~1650#s, a rather large Cummins weighs 1000. It doesn't look any different that a Cummins in the pictures I've seen, so I imagine it's quite a bit bigger all the way around, which makes me think it might be pushing the limits of what can be done and still be useable. If it's much longer than a Cummins you would have to loose some foot room in the cab, and that can mean having the gas pedal at a really uncomfortable place to use daily.

It does seem you can get better mpg and power out of a newer diesel, but the mulitfuel is pretty awesome.

I'm currently looking into diesel engines for my truck, and people have put them in '56s, but I think that diesel might be way too big and require a whole lot of cutting and welding.

Unless you have some experience with them and a special love for them...why bother with such an oddball?

Continental Multifuel LDT 465 1D engine woes - Page 2 - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

More info than you can shake a stick at:

TM's for the Deuce - Steel Soldiers::Military Vehicles Supersite

I remember someone saying mean things about them, don't know why....

48 to 50+ inches long:

vs. 40" for the Cummins:

what are the dimensions of 6bt cummins - TheDieselGarage.com

There ain't much foot room in those to begin with, and I don't think you want it sticking out the front....you could put a propeller on it I suppose...

Hi
You guys are great!
Great info, thanks. I'll have to rethink this.
I'm not opposed to a little fab work

Thanks again!

Yeah, you're talking about a 1600lb engine that is only capable of about 200HP on a good day!!

I might go for a well built 300 cu-in inline 6 over that!

Yea, a 300 would work, heck it would be a joy compared to caring and feeding an old 272 with the external oiling bandaid.

Besides, you don't really want to get one of those going very fast anyway, especially with a load.
